I have my feet in both camps. I love a pair of flats yet there is nothing like a good pair of heels to make me feel feminine, well dressed and in the mood to party.
Carla Sarkosy is the queen of the flats - does she really love them or is it that M. le President is not the tallest politician on the planet ? I somehow think that if her beloved were a foot taller she would be waving the French flag for the king of divine footwear and kicking up her heels in Christian Louboutins day and night.
Flats v's Heels - I guess it all comes down to comfort and vanity.
Comfort is my very best friend during the daylight hours but when it comes to the night time.... Those heels - 8 or even 10 cm, skinny, platform or wedge, they make me feel slimmer, taller, sexier and more glamorous. They also squash my toes, upset by balance, make my feet ache and my calves burn - but I don't care. Will I stop wearing them? Not a chance!
Tell me the truth....flats or heels? xv
I am both! I wear very high heels to work...love that feeling of high heels. I feel a bit more 'powerful' LOL. The higher the better too. I have perfected walking in them now, and can even walk over a building site in them!!! But on my days off, it's definitely flats/thongs.
ReplyDeleteDEAR VICKI...well i AM 5'4"...SOOO HEELS ARE THE GO if i want to look taller..
ReplyDeleteBUT.hey during the day...grocery shopping etc...who can wear heels..so FLATS are the go for mundane/shopping..
HEELS are the GO for a night out.. special occasion.restaurant dining etc etc..
(i have actually been wearing high wedges?? over summer .to look taller...and am suffering now from shin splints!!)...
Us shorties CANNOT WIN!!
xx andrea
Oh how I love stilettos, but alas find my self in First Lady Sarkosy's camp. Thou Louboutin's speak to my soul with their graceful shape, slim, vertiginous pencil-like heels, and that signature flash of Chinese-red on the sole, my shoes of choice are Tori Burch, French Sole or Repetto ballet flats.
ReplyDeleteNow in my mid-40s my feet are wrecked from wearing heels in my younger days, unfortunately, I wear flats 90% of the time & heels for special occasions only. Doesn't mean I don't love, love, love heels though. Lee :)
ReplyDeletewell I'm 5ft 2 and when I was in my teens I always swore that I would never bother wearing heels - I was happy with my height! But heels are so pretty, I love them now. I don't wear them for the extra height though. I like them because they look so beautiful and elegant and make your legs look lovely and slim! I also love hearing that click-click as you walk down a corridor in them.
ReplyDeleteI'm a flats girl...I don't and have never owned a pair of heels!! I love them on my girlfriends though!!

I've got six kids and spend most of my life lugging groceries, children and generally being a pack-horse - but - thank the Lord for wedges! The comfort of flats and the glamour of heels for daily living. In this season of my life, it's the most I can hope for.
ReplyDeleteI love flats for the comfort factor. I will wear heels if the occasion calls for it but I usually cannot wait to kick them off! Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI'm a flats gal! I've never met a ballet flat didn't adore. Heels are definately just the thing for that special occasion. But hands down- flats for me!
ReplyDeleteI am both as well! I don't like too high a heel although I am quite short. Having a small child means that it's more practical to wear flats during the day. I would probably sleep in my vintage cowboy boots if I could!
ReplyDeleteI love both. I'm only 5'3" so I usually wear heels to work, but on weekends, I love feeling like Audrey Hepburn skipping around in my flats!
ReplyDeleteHeels for sure, even if they are not super high. I think after years of wearing them my feet prefer this angle now. Granted they are not sky high or anything but just a little height feels more normal.
ReplyDeleteback from hols- lots of French Essence to catch up on
ReplyDeleteI'm a both girl too, flats for day wear and concerts, heels for evenings and dancing
Carla Bruni wears flats well but I think it's more of a Sarko short thing than a fashion choice.
I love both. Before I came to France I only wore heels but I found that the whole viillage could hear me going up the grand rue on my daily quests for croissants so my favourite shoes for my "bread run" are my french sole ballerines. That said I still adore heels and wear them whenever I can :-)
ReplyDeleteL x
I used to be heels...all day, everyday...but now it's all flats. I'm 5'10'' so heels just aren't practical for my regular stuff I am running around doing!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I line up my fancy heels and just look at them........don't get much chance to wear them these days, but love, love my heels, and miss them too!
ReplyDeleteI love all those visually slimming tricks that heels give to your figure and legs. I have to say though, that comfort is number one on my list, so... it's flats for me.
ReplyDeleteHope you can join Kari and Kijsa and myself for "Doors to Adore" tomorrow.
Have a great day!
Darlene
Heels, when going out or to a special event....the rest of the time..I am a black thong sandals / croc girl when puttin around town!

I wish I could be a "Carrie" and wear 4 inch heels while frolicking in the city. LOVE the way you're instantly taller and slimmer but your feet and back pay the price at the end of the day so it's flats/low heels for me in the daylight hours.
ReplyDeleteHow did I dance the night away at the discos with "Candies" so many years ago?!
I used to be a heel girl, the higher the better. I used to wear them to work in my younger days and like Katrina, I could walk over a building site in them! But now the poor tootsies are so sensitive. Flats are in order, or maybe just a slight heel, like in your opening pic.
ReplyDeleteAt 5'0" I would love to be in heels all the time, but the truth of the matter is that I rarely ever wear them. My number one priority if comfort, and I have not found many comfortable heels.
ReplyDeleteDef. a flats girl here! Can't get enough of ballet flats!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of heels, especially the classic ones. However, I hardly ever do heels, especially the high ones, because I am not used to them, and would trip. So, I will continue to keep my feet in both camps as you do.
ReplyDeleteI have very tiny but wide feet and wearing heels makes me feel very out of kilter. I seem to live all my days in various coloured Rocket Dog boots and I just can't imagine wearing anything else now.
ReplyDeleteI'm both . With high heels I can feel very " WOMAN" . But I love the look of flat shoes with short pants as Audrey Hephburn worn them and I have to wear flat shoes for my job
ReplyDeleteI'm so totally with you on everything to do with heels -- I live in both camps, too. My shoes are like my house - a little of everything. Flip flops and uggs to the beach and after surfing, cute flats are perfect for some things, but nothing beats my cork wedges and those teetering tall slinky and oh so pointed toed heels ... It is a huge asset that my husband is 6'3" - so the only limit to how high I want to go is my own fear of falling.
ReplyDeletexo Isa
I am both Vicki!
ReplyDeleteI wear flats most days but LOOK-OUT weekend, date night with my sweetie and I am all HEELS. Not only do they make my legs look loooonger and I like to think skinnier(he-he)also, I feel more feminine....He LOVES them too!
Cute Post...Have a great day!
Miss Kris
Flats, mostly. I adore spectators. I know, ecccentric. But there you are . Brown and white spectators and a white linen suit with a gardenia on my lapel.
ReplyDeleteI do wear heels when the occasion calls for them. But, I have to admit...they are uncomfortable. I've never been able to fathom how dancers perform intricate numbers whilst wearing such high heels!!
Heels--all the way!
ReplyDeleteI am both - depends on the circumstances...
ReplyDeleteAt 1M75, I can get away with both but heels are always sexier than flats unless I'm running from one RdV to another...
Great post :)
I'm more comfy in flats and wear them most days being a busy mum, but i like to wear heels as i'm short!!
ReplyDeleteLove them both. Definitely a 'flats' person when I am home but do love a great pair of heels to go out in - you are right about them making you feel more feminine. For Amy's wedding on Saturday I wore shorter heels as I knew it would be a long day/night.
ReplyDeleteAlison
"Tell the truth." Oh, do I have to?
ReplyDeleteOK, I've gotten to the advanced age where neither feel good enough to endure. ,-)
High heels... forget it. And flats... forget it also. I have to have {not choose, have to have!} a low to medium heel, all the time. -sigh-
Enjoy your youth!!!!!!!! :-)
'Aunt Amelia'
Well, I know what I used to be!!!
ReplyDeleteI love flats too - on other people. I always feel like a dork in flats. Perhaps the kitten heel is the answer for me.
Catherine
No question here Vicki. I'll be propelling my Zimmer frame around the Nursing Home in the highest, sexiest, most impractical pair of stilettos I can find, on the way to replenishing my champagne supplies!
ReplyDeleteMillie ^_^
Both!
ReplyDeleteFlats are so young and Audrey.
Heels are just sexy.
I wear heels to dance tango in.
I wear flats and mid high chunky heels to run around the old funky sidewalks of New Orleans.
Today I am wearing a pair of short ankle boots, Anna Sui, black suede, pointy toe, 2.5 inch antique shape Louis heel.
xo xo
HEELS! I'm only 5' 1 1/2".
ReplyDeleteBUT, when I'm not feeling the need to rise high, I LOVE a pair of cute ballet flats. They just go with everything, don't they??
btw, even my flip-flops have a platform or heel ;-)
ReplyDeleteI do both. I am tallish, 5'9" and I wish I were taller so I LOVE heels but my feet prefer flats. I am at a 60/40 split and sadly comfort winning over height.
ReplyDeleteI am of medium height so heels have never been necessary for me. And I'm just not comfortable in them. I always feel sorry watching a woman who obviously can't walk in her shoes but will hobble in them anyway to look good. But somehow that uncomfortable walk detracts. I don't know how those french women do it, look so perfectly comfortable in those high heels! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteBoth - forever
ReplyDeleteflats hands down - i go for comfort - but I do love heels and everyone looks so good in them - I don't know how people can walk around all day in heels - like all the young girls in nyc - and elsewhere
ReplyDeleteFlats. I can't do heels anymore. Wouldn't mind having Carla's brown buckle flats....
ReplyDeleteFlats are my favorite and I wear them almost everyday... i think I am into comfort and pampering myself these days.. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a hard question to answer!
ReplyDeleteLove them both...
flats and jeans for the daytime is so chic, but I love a beautiful heel for nighttime!
i am with you, flats during the day and heels at night.
ReplyDeleteI am picky about my men, I prefer them to be taller than me with heels on. I am 5'8" so he must be about 6'0 minimum. i know, I am a bit shallow on that but I love tall men.
as a girl who describes her height as "almost 5'3"," i appreciate what heels can do for me. but like you said, heels can give you pain like nothing else. perversely, i love the feeling of relief that washes over me when i take my heels off after being in them all day. it almost makes the pain worth it. however, 90% of the time i'm in flats even though my doctor recently told me that flats aren't very good for you either since they offer very little support. oh well, i guess we can't win. at least we can look cute.
ReplyDeleteI love both, I feel a little conspicuous wearing heels during the day in Hervey Bay, but sometimes trot off to work in them they make you feel a little glam, which every girls needs now and then.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm a flats girl, I love wearing them. But for looking good, it's true that nothing beats a high heeled shoe!
ReplyDeletei completely agree with you!
ReplyDeleteflats during the day, J Crew are my favs,
and heels at night, the higher the better!
so lady like !
ReplyDeletei am always in flats.
unless i am meeting someone for the first time, and it is work related.
i am a shrimp.
Heels most of the time although flats certainly have there place!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby always asks me why I am "so short" when wearing flats. He's used to me in heels and he's
6'5" so I can certainly get away with Louboutins.
Sorry Carla!
Oh, I can't choose!
ReplyDeleteI love to walk--to work, around town, etc--and practicality demands flats.
But I'm a girl and heels are...well they're necessary!
At 5'11", I vacillate between flats and kitten-heels. The little heel does give me a confidence boost - but the flats are oh-so-comfy. My 3-inch heels only come out when I need to be "loaded for bear."
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely blog!
am definitely a heels person ..
ReplyDeletelov the aura when people turn to look at our sexy heels ..
makes us feel more feminine n sexy !!
Oh my ... I used to be a high heels gal .. before both of my hips were replaced. I long for the days I used to slip into my 3" beauties and feel like the queen of the universe.
ReplyDeleteNow, it's very trendy flat boots and beautiful sandals and flats I have fallen in love with.
Keep wearing those heels for me and all the other women who can no longer manage them.
I do love a great pair of heels , but the reality of my life (lots of country roads!) demands ballet flats -
ReplyDeleteMy real favorite : a little Louis heel . I still feel a bit prissy, but, can walk all day in comfort.
Jjj
I am with you. I do love the look of heels but comfort always wins out for me and I think flats are too cute. But for going out or a couple of hours I can manage the heels! Have a happy Easter!
ReplyDeletexx Trina
I short-I wear a lot of heels (not too high though - don't want to twist an ankle!). Flats are comfy, but my jeans drag on the ground when I wear them!
ReplyDeletedefinitely flats when i think i will be walking more than 1hr & heels for a shorter time :)
ReplyDeleteI love boots, flip flops and heels. I bet I weat heels more than anything else...I am only 5'5"...I need to feel taller:-)
ReplyDeleteFlats. I am not tall - 5'4" - but I choose comfort over fashion every time!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Obama seems to be a fan of flats too - I guess very tall women just don't need the additional height.
I WISH I could be a heels girl! Whenever I do wear them, I feel very special indeed. But alas, I have foot and knee issues so flats it is. But that doesn't stop me from investing in super nice flats to make up for it (um, hello chanel?)!
ReplyDeleteWellllllll... I am a HUGE fan of flip flop style sandals... so I would have to say... flats... but I ADORE heeled sandals too!
ReplyDeleteBTW... my Monday post will be about spending the weekend in the south part of France... perhaps I will have to pop in to say hello to you... will you be home this weekend?
Fifi
I love flats for day ( very Audrey Hepburn in my book ). But am very pick that they are true ballet flats.
ReplyDeleteYet for night, I too am heels all the way! I'm not short- but on the few times I attempted wearing flats out at night I felt like everyone was towering over me. My neck hurt from looking up all night. Never again!
Oh! Flats! (Especially jeweled ones by Emma Hope!)
ReplyDeleteMy feet are in both camps too! I used to wear heels all the time, but now I have a hard time not picking flats day in and out. Heels still own the night however-- they make me feel the same as they do you!
ReplyDeletewhat? sixty six comments about heels? You know this is an emotional topic. I look far better in heels due to the fact that I'm missing about two inches per leg, yet I only wear flats because they feel comfy. My life does not lend itself to glamour these days.
ReplyDeleteI love both! The good things is you aren't lost for choice with either these days which is great. Lisa xo
ReplyDeleteI wear flats all the time because they are comfy and also very feminine plus they look great with an 11 inch mini skirt. Heels have to be at least 4 inch stilettos in order for me to even concider them. I wear them mainly with short short skirts and skinny jeans. Janet
ReplyDelete90% of the time it's flats for comfort and ease. A business meeting, lunch or night out it's heels.
ReplyDelete90% of the time it's flats for comfort and ease. A business meeting/lunch or an evening out, it's heels.
ReplyDeleteim a guy and i just love girls w/ flats, heels are so so last century
