Earlier this month I went to New Covent Garden in London, the wholesaler's flower and plant market. Every December I buy my ribbons, wrapping paper and any last minute basic Christmas bits that inspire. We load up the car (always bursting) with these goodies, Christmas presents and any other of my holiday essentials I can't find in France and drive to the farm in St Remy.
I love this commute by car, the luxury of walking out the door, not worrying about the size of suitcases and the carry on requirements at the airport. The drive takes about twelve hours - sometimes we stay overnight on the way and sometimes not. The best part is when we reach Lyon and I know that in two and a half hours we will turn into our driveway and be home.
Love that feeling of coming home; for me, that is a big part of what Christmas is all about.
Oh Vicki! I think my heart stopped when I got to the photo of the ribbons! You should warn a girl!
ReplyDeleteThat would be Christmas present enough, just to go see all of that. It is a delectable feast for the eyes!

PS Thank you for your incredibly sweet comment, you always make me smile :)
Oh Vicki, so jealous - that place looks like heaven to me, and would certainly get you in the Christmas spirit! Sending you warm and sunny wishes from Australia this Christmas. Who would have thought the woman who wrote a book I love so much would end up conversing with me via my little blog - thank you Vicki, "see" you in the new year, enjoy! xxx
ReplyDeleteoooo I love a good flower market!

I love this holiday chore the most!

Vicki, What a fabulous and fun idea! I love this, a 12 hour road trip for Christmas wrapping and decor! You, my dear friend, are a woman after my own heart. To be in London, shopping and experiencing Christmas fun and then to drive all through France to your home is just too DREAMY!!! Can we come along next year?
ReplyDeleteJoyeux Noel!
oh that place looks amazing! wow, and all those ribbons too, I'm getting excited just looking at the images ;) thanks for sharing, I'll definitely try to visit there next Dec! Tina x
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fabulous place to shop for your holiday decor. I am sure that your home looks brilliant decked out for the season!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know exactly what you mean about the feeling of excitement over being almost home. I certainly have those landmarkers/places on my drives too. xx
I know that feeling of not worrying about the baggage allowance. When we visit Charlotte in Paris I load that car up to bursting. I have even taken a massive rocking horse in the car and customs didn't give a toss. Also I much prefer using Eurotunnel so much less fuss.
ReplyDeleteI just stopped by and discovered a beautiful blog world of elegance and activity. I'm coming back!
ReplyDeleteHi just found you on La Belette Rouge..Love the photos..I was in Covent Garden on Sunday, 9 of us took a trip from Oxford..then we went to the Royal Albert hall for a Carol Service..love going there.
