Hippolyte Romain - artist, writer and set designer has an eye for detail and an uncanny knack of observation. His modern day water colours of Parisian life are a joy to behold and add yet another beautiful visual dimension to photographer Carla Coulson's book, Paris Tango.
Hippolyte has captured the multi cultural atmosphere and buzz outside Cafe de Flore on the Left Bank,
Can you be a combo? I cannot call myself an artist but I do love to write and appreciate art....and on the other hand I love glamour & fashion and all things fancy but most of the time do not feel very glamorous... Complicated, I know.. but I am a woman, it's expected, right! :)
ReplyDeleteHow divine... these water colors pull my heartstrings and bring me right back to Paris (where I studied abroad in my college years)...
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that I would most likely be a Cafe de Flore Parisian as I love to people watch and thoroughly enjoy an afternoon spent with friends; laughing, sipping a cafe au lait and enjoying the waning afternoon...
wonderful blog! i found you by way of "the paris apartment" blog. i visited paris for the first time this summer & am dying to go back for more. I can't wait to get a copy of the paris tango book. hopefully it'll be available in the us soon. thanks for all the pictures of your paris adventures--they give me something to look forward to :)
ReplyDeleteLovely water colors, très Paris!
ReplyDeleteI would be the crazy old lady walking a dog Oh - with a guerlain shopping bag!!!

ReplyDeleteI wish I could paint with water colours, very difficult medium. i prefer charcoals and oil paint myself.

Gorgeous water colors! I think I could place myself in each one of these scenes. Ahhhh, Paris! Diverse, beautiful and always moving...
ReplyDeleteI am differently the cafe style Parisian
ReplyDeleteI belong to a cafe - coffee lovers meet-up here in P-Town and we gather & chat at a different coffee house each month, I also like to spent time reading & journaling at the coffee houses I meet many interesting people there, & I bring my stretch book and draw whatever catches my attention..
Love your blog,
Joanny
Yes he certainly does have an eye for detail ... I think I am in the third watercolour, walking Paris (my little dog)... or rather she is walking me. Thank you for sharing Vicki(I have already my name in the draw and thought this a rather eye-catching post)...Dzintra
ReplyDeleteI'm surely a combo but above all I'm a parisienne " flaneur " (stroller) I love to walk in Paris without any purpose and sitting in a terrasse to drink a café or an orangina ...
ReplyDeleteHumm, I guess that I would mostly likely be a Cafe de Flore. Our hotel, when we stayed in Paris, was in the Left Bank. I loved watching the people and drinking latte's. I wish I could remember the name of the hotel??
ReplyDeleteI love the watercolors!! Great post.
Kris
I am a different Parisian everyday. Today - I am La Goulue, the toast of Paris. Meet me tonight in my dressing room at the Moulin Rouge. We will join my friend Toulouse-Lautrec and drink absinthe till dawn. Don't worry about a place to sleep - we will sleep in Lautrec's carriage.
ReplyDeleteLa Goulue
hmm, this is hard. i think i am different parisienne depending on my mood. some days i love people-watching while hanging out in a cafe. other days i love getting swept up in the amazing fashion scene, too.
ReplyDeleteVicki, your blog is lovely. I am so glad I found it! It's as if someone gave me a beautiful gift unexpectedly. I would be the Parisian lady in green walking her black dog. Oh, to be there in Paris!Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki! I am the first one first artsy but I mentally think I am the second. An artsy girl can sophisticated at times, Right? lol! :o)
ReplyDeleteMy young daughters (8 & 12) and I are enchanted by your website. Every night we have a look to see what you have written! Even at this young age they are interested in the pictures of Paris, fashions, shops and interiors!
ReplyDeleteWe all love Carla's work; for Christmas they have bought me Amanda Tabberer' book on the Amalfi Coast, which Carla photographed. Roll on Christmas!
Best wishes, Olivia
Hi Vicki, I think I am them all, I first went to Paris in 1986, with my two year old daughter,we travelled by boat and train from Ireland. We ate our first croissant and pain au chocolat in a Montparnasse cafe, on the way to the Jardin du Luxembourg, then spent the next day at the Louvre, we were in heaven, the beginings of a long story that began our love affair with all things french. Next year my daughter is getting married in Rivesaltes home of muscat. Thanks for the memories. Margie.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and it makes me feel a little bit nostalgic. Is this to be home sick of Paris?
ReplyDeleteI don t know... maybe...
