i'll always have paris...

Another one for you...

After my Julia Child moment yesterday, one of my readers suggested this memoir by the American humorist Art Buchwald... I am embarrassed to say I haven't read this but on all accounts it sounds brilliant and highly entertaining... Any Paris chat from the 50's and 60's and I am in...

I have just ordered my copy and I thought you might like to read it too... xv

  1. I read Art Buchwald's book....so colorful and amusing. I agree...anything in Paris 50s-60s can't resist.

Julia Child lived in Santa Barbara/Montecito at the same time I lived there--met her twice. She was just as she seems on TV. Although, she asked me what I was preparing for a dinner for 50 and when I replied--she said, 'Oh, just throw some meat on the barbecue.' Which I thought hysterical after watching all her shows, buying her books, learning many of her complex recipes--that she advised taking the easier route. I went ahead with my original plans that worked out beautifully. But what an irrepressible, amusing, life-affirming and singular lady!

  4. Oh Dear, Vicki ! I can tell its deepest Winter in Europe as all my favourite Bloggers are reading :) - between you and Carla Coulson I must have blown $50 a week at Amazon for the last month. *sigh* Its SO tough having to read all these interesting books - not to mention your very beautiful book "French Essence" itself, which I have finally treated myself to....

Here in Perth in Western Australia I have been kept indoors by the weather as well - a solid week of 38 - 42 degree days !! Only 33 degrees today - what a relief :)

    I send you a little sunshine !!

  6. Hi Vicki: May I suggest another lovely little tome: 'A Corner in the Marais - Memoir of a Paris Neighborhood' by Alex Karmel and of course, 'French Women Don't Get Fat' by Mireille Guiliano...I highly recommend the first book...the author touches on the 'architectural and social development' of Paris and his dream of living there. ;-))
