a chanel weekend...

see all the invitations here

Last year's Spring-Summer haute couture invitation, beautifully graphic and immediately reminiscent of Chanel No 5, got me thinking about Chanel and in particular the perfume. There is something about a dab of Number 5 that makes me feel glamorous and womanly... I can't put it into words but it is without doubt the one fragrance that many of us want to try and to wear at certain times...

This weekend is calling for a Chanel moment...  I need a little spoiling... The clever thing about Chanel is that whether you indulge in a lipstick or a nail polish... whether you have a 2.55 quilted handbag or if indeed you have the great luxury of couture... The black and the white, the intertwined CC's make us feel that little bit more French, more female... special... and I am all for that... Sometimes we woman need a little self pampering... and a touch of Chanel can do just that...

My 'Chanel Weekend' is going to go something like this...

I want to walk through a cloud of Chanel No 5 and I want to wear rich red lipstick on Saturday night (nothing puts me more in a French mood than red lipstick)...
but most of all I want to curl up with one of my Christmas presents, The Secret of Chanel No 5:The Intimate History of the World's most Famous Perfume and learn the full story...
(European readers can find it here...)

Have a wonderful weekend... and do spoil yourself... we all deserve a little luxury from time to time...xv

  1. VICKI!!!!!!!!!!! First of all, my mum wore red lipstick ALWAYS! Secondly, Chanel No. 5 was her fragrance of choice and it I were to smell it right now, the experience would transport me to my childhood. AND.................. YOUR CUPBOARD IS FABULOUS! I did credit it to you and your MAGNIFICENT BOOK that I SO LOVE. I knew I had to use your pic to get my message complete. And let's face it, if your cupboard is....packed...then that is the reality of having to PUSH THROUGH all the obstacles to get to Narnia AND BACK!!!!! Merci bien chère Madame! BISES, Anita

  2. Hi Vicki

You are so right, something like CC's lipstick or a spray of perfume is uplifting.
I have a Gala this evening, we are the featured artists. I shall be donning my best and walking through a cloud of perfume prior to making my entrance.
    Have a delightful weekend

  3. I still cherish the first, although empty, bottle of Chanel No. 5 that I purchased oh so long ago in NYC. It makes my vanity tray look oh so chic. Best, Lisa

  6. Many many years ago I had a girlfriend who worked at a Chanel distribution center and several times a year they would sell to employees at super-deep discounts - she would give me bags and bags of perfume and nail polish ... talk about being spoiled!

All the best for a grand weekend,
    Katie

  8. Indeed, Chanel makes one feel special like no other. But Amazon is charging too much; better to go into a local shop or online for the average price of one of the lipsticks. I own several Chanel formulas: Orchidee, Cambon, and a Rouge Lacque. None of them cost me $35.00. Of course, a bottle of No.5 is just the thing to accompany a red pout!

  9. I just finished reading Coco Chanel An Intimate Life by Lisa Chaney, which I got for Christmas. I went to the Chanel counter last night and got a few perfume samples, a bottle of nail polish, and Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. I got a sample of the foundation a few weeks ago, it is the best. I have been using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for years and the Chanel is by far better. If you like light coverage give it a try. Going to order The Secret of Chanel No. 5 today, hope to have it next weekend to read.

  13. My inner French girl loves red Chanel lipstick. I wear mine with a crisp white shirt, masses of pearls, black skinny jeans and ballet flats. Black and white dressing works for me, perhaps it's Chanel's influence.
If I were to have a windfall I'd go straight to the Chanel shop and buy a luxe bag!

    Your weekend sounds enchanting.

  14. I so loved "The Secret of Chanel No 5:The Intimate History of the World's most Famous Perfume". In any situation that requires decorum yet intoxication, Chanel No. 5 is THE perfume I use. I do layers of the body lotion, powder and the perfume. Sheer magic. The book isn't bad either. I'm currently reading "Sleeping with the Enemy" about Chanel's war years. Not so flattering but I do want to know everything about her.

  21. Do you think the Chanel logo is the most famous one in the world? Or Mercedes Benz?
    Gives one pause doesn't it?

  22. Hi Vicky .... I can't agree more! Any piece of Chanel, big or small, makes us feel so French and so special. There is nothing more elegant and I have worn Coco Chanel eau de toilette since I was 21. I still get comments now with people saying "What scent are you wearing ..... it is divine" and I am more than happy to tell them! Also, on my first visit to Paris in 2007 I bought a long strand of CC pearls and black silk ballet shoes and they still give me such a thrill to wear them. They become like old friends you can trust and know they can take you anywhere ..... with a pair of jeans and white shirt or a little black dress!
have a lovely Sunday and best wishes
    Frances

hands down!!! the chanel logo is the most fabulous.
    and red lipstick?
i have always been afraid to wear it because i don't have nice BIG LIPS
    like 'angolina'
i thought that it would make me look as though i had a thin red line drawn across my face!!
    hahahahah
    no really.

  28. I'm partial to pale pink Chanel lipstick. Chanel makes THE most beautiful lipsticks, don't you think? And I adore the boutique Chanel fragrances that you can only find in Chanel boutiques. They're simply sublime. Nothing finishes an outfit off like Chanel!

  33. So nice to find your blog, Vicky! I love Chanel "Chance" but my mother swears buy No. 5. She's finally convinced me to enjoy some and so I got some for Christmas. I have to admit that it has to grow on my body chemistry but it does smell lovingly.

    Again, nice to meet you.
