'Every little girl would like to be the fairy on the Christmas tree' crooned the BBC singers in 1936... Imagine it's pre war in Britain and radios and dance halls all over the land are playing this tune... The British accents alone had me smiling not to mention the catchy title phrase.... It's slow, it's sweet but take some time for yourself today and be transported... Imagine yourself hovering around the Christmas tree as a little girl, dressed in a smocked frock with mary jane patent shoes and a head of rag curls with silk satin bow, dreaming of the fairy on the Christmas tree... I thought it adorable and thank you David, my brilliant friend from North Carolina who is always thinking of my blog and what my readers might enjoy....
Taking time is something I feel we all neglect a little, especially at this time of year so when I was asked by Melissa of Reverie Daydreams, one of the most beautiful blogs I know, to write about wishful thinking... I realised that my wish was for my time to stand still, for change to stop... If you would like a little more 'so Paris' and a dose of my wishful thinking please visit Reverie Daydream and say hello.... Wishful thinking is that something you do? Tomorrow I have Christmas decorations and votives to send you so tell me your wishes and dreams... Here, on Facebook, Twitter or by email...
And to put you more in the musical mood for Christmas... have a look HERE... There are only 11 more full days (for me anyway) before Christmas... so let's enjoy them... Have a sparkling day and see you tomorrow... xv
Good morning Vicki, I suspect I am the first to comment because I am in UK and your USA readers are not up yet! I'm missing France at this time of year (we lived near Toulouse for 4 years) but your blog keeps me in touch. Thanks for your beauty tips the other day (I'm off to Boots), and for your giveaway too. What a lovely generous idea.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
I haven't heard this for such a long time - it's so lovely to hear it again - thank you! You're right it is adorable! I've taken a few moments to listen to it and think about my wishes - just health and happiness for 2012.....

What a sweet post! Love this, thanks for sharing :) Wishing you a very happy holiday.
ReplyDeleteVicki,
ReplyDeleteI agree, this time of year gets so hectic, we forget to take even 2 1/2 minutes out of our day to enjoy a little music/video. I forced myself to hit play and listen and smile as I envisioned Christmas with possibly less during a different time. I'm so glad I did. Thank you and thank you for the beauty essentials feedback.

Oh I love going back in time to hear this sweet tune V. Yes, you're right of course. We must stop and just breathe deeply and take a little time to reflect at this busy time of the year. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us this week.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm off to Reverie Daydream to say hello!
xx

I've never heard that song. Very sweet! I have already gotten my Christmas wish. My husband, who is in the US army, is home for our daughters first Christmas. My Christmas is complete!
ReplyDeleteDear Vicki,
ReplyDeleteWell....given the number of indisputably lovely-glittery ornaments you've recently described?... what a surprise to find myself described as "brilliant" on your blog. Personally, I'd be more inclined to refer to myself as a fellow who seems to have more time on his hands than God does, in addition to having a LOT of longtime friends who have extremely good& quite-varied tastes in music. In short I don't so much have "good taste" in music (I make a ton of "mix-tapes", and I hear this a lot) as I steal a lot from my friends who do, indeed, have wide and cultivated tastes in music.
That aside?.....I really appreciated your sincere comments, Vicki, about "standing still" and "taking time". To be honest, it's not difficult to read-between-the-lines when going through the responses on the 3 or 4 blogs I happen to follow. So many people are, obviously, almost overwhelmed by troubles these days. It's occurred to me that a lot folks go to the blogs in the same way (and for the same reasons) that folks who lived during the Great Depression (my grandmother always used to ask "What was so 'GREAT' about it?") went to the movies. I sent this song to you, yesterday, simply because I figured that you might "use" it.....and that you'd introduce it in such a way as to suggest that, just perhaps, it's not so bad to ALLOW yourself a few moments of silliness (which is what many folks would call it) every once in a while? Lord knows the troubles will still be there when you're done with your few moments of ALLOWING yourself to simply enjoy something in a patently "silly", transparently sentimental way.
Over the years, my partner, Herve, has regularly had to tell me "You need to give yourself a vacation for a few days...". I think that holds true for everyone....and this season, quite frankly, gives everyone a fine excuse for doing so.....at least for a good, if-short while.
and, in short?....there you have it.....ups and downs...and your instincts are quite right, Vicki, in gently suggesting that we all take at least a moment to just sit still, try to hold supposedly "opposite" things in balance (I know, I sound like a con-man Zen Buddhist from California)...and just enjoy/appreciate, for a short while at least, Christmas ornaments and "silly", sentimental songs that remind us of old friends.
My good guess is that most folks, if they just do what you've suggested, will (after the all-too-brief holiday season) find themselves considerably refreshed and ready to dive right back into the "real" (not a distinction I happen to make) world.
quite sincerely, and a Merry Christmas to all you folks....

Oh Vicki, this is so cute - don't we all want to be a Christmas fairy. And when was the last time you heard the word "pollywog"? I'm posting it to my Facebook page and maybe even my blog I love this so much.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, I hope that you are enjoying every moment of this Christmas season. When do the DDs and DS arrive? Be well. Mary
ReplyDeleteWent right over to Reverie Daydream and signed up for the blog. Thanks for the tip. At this time of year it is even difficult to slow down and enjoy the things that you love. As I get older I appreciate all the little gifts in life and give gratitude on a daily basis. Thanks for the reminder.

Very sweet. Our count down is happening, we leave for Kangaroo Island for a week of relaxaton with a friend on Sunday, home after Christmas.
ReplyDeleteOh Vicki,
ReplyDeleteThat is SO '30's BBC ..... plum in the mouth cut glass accents ...... I don't think that anyone has ever really talked like that apart from BBC presenters of that time ! ....and, our son is now a producer at the BBC and doesn't talk anything like that...haha !! XXXX
Sweet. As a little girl I preferred my cowgirl outfit and bow and arrow set...but my younger sister was definitely the beautiful little blonde fairy. Nice to have one in the house ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a charming post!
I love this because you gave us magic. And sweetness. And innocence. It's also a season of children.
