I have always loved flowers... I grew up in a home filled with flowers... Camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas and agapanthus were my mother's floral palette with the occasional bowl of blossom if the Sydney winds and rain permitted. The choices were not sophisticated, they were home grown blooms cut fresh from the garden and tweaked with some kind of natural greenery. They were simple and pretty and most importantly I learned that flowers can change the nature and ambience of a room.
When I lived in Sydney and my garden was not all that it could be my flower haven was a small shop in Potts Point called Grandiflora... Saskia Havekes filled her shop with the most delicate, rare and unusual of stems that she sourced from all over the country. Her form and colour combinations were exciting... her choice of flowers exotic... and this was fifteen years ago when floral bouquets were basic... the shapes were tight, the flowers uniform and the bunches full of standard green fill...
Grandiflora is still one of my favourite shops in Sydney... Saskia's floral design has become more and more beautiful as the years have passed and her vision for the big event is extraordinary. Her new book Grandiflora Celebrations takes you on site... the photographs are spectacular and the inspiration unending. This book is available only in Australia at the present time... but it is well worth the shipping costs and the time delay... You can find it here... xv
These are absolutely beautiful. I love to have gorgeous flowers in the house! I shall have a look at the Grandiflora website.

As luck would have it I am currently in Australia so I'll look it up. I was lucky enough to win Carla's new book so can't wait for that to arrive also. I've never been to my Mum's without her having fresh flowers from the garden all around the house. Always on the table at dinner, and I so love the images you share, glorious blooms! ciao lisa

I love the last one, especially, on her head! And the photo across from this spot of the water flowing over the flowers. Such a delight!
ReplyDeleteI used to use GF heaps back in the good old days when we could send our clients a thank you gift. They used to rave about the flowers for weeks after. Now with the strictest Code of Ethics known to man, I can't even sneeze in a client's direction for fear that it may influence their buying decision. Saskia is a true artist, long may she rein as Sydney's Queen of Flowers.

Stunning! Absolutely delicious eye candy!
ReplyDeleteI am a painter and I always get my blooms from Grandiflora. Just standing in the tiny shop is inspirational. I am painting a large hydrangea at the moment - my favorite! Love your blog Vicki. Xx
