I know the Venice Biennale is really about art...

It's Biennale time in Venice. This 53rd International art fair is titled, Making Worlds, with 90 artists in the principal exhibition and a record number of 77 countries showing in their own pavilions.

The vernissage took place last week and while I know Biennale is about art, not parties fashion and people....

Charlotte Casiraghi did look pretty cute

as did Naomi Cambell.

I love this yellow on Margherita Missoni

but these two and their gorgeous dresses get my vote.

If there were one party I could crash it would  have been M. Francois Pinault's new museum opening at the old customs house, the Punto della Dogana, just across from Piazza San Marco - the inaugural exhibition is entitled, Mapping the Studio: Artists from the Francois Pinault Collection. After a few cocktails, a little networking, some chit chat and people watching I could have motored up the Grand Canal to his Palazzo Grassi to view the remainder of his collection.

I guess my invitation got lost in la France profonde........xv

  7. I could do that, Vicki. Just trail in your footsteps.

My husband was approached about showing at a gallery during this event, but it was not viable. What a lost opportunity. I have to remember that sometimes, the answer is "no."

  8. I see fashion as art as evidenced by the great pieces worn by the women you shared...some artists create on canvas or with film, others by what they create for us to wear and then it is how it is worn, accessorized and carried that makes it great. Loved all the photos!

  9. Lovely post.....I've been thinking about all your beautiful woman and French attitudes....and thinking I need to change my farmer ways. Do they ever have dirt under their nails? Do French women garden ?

  12. Vicki, I do wish you could get an invite! How fun it would be to get an up close and personal view from the screen of the French Essence blog!

Too bad that you (and we) will just have to contend with a duel French and English life...such suffering! Really though, love the photos and your commentary...I hope the sun shines in both your internal and external environments. <3

  13. Good morning Vicki .... The ladies in the last photo get my vote too. I am beginning to think about what I will wear in October as mother of the groom .... I love the look and feel of the dress on the lovely 'lady of a certain age' in that photo.

  14. Oh, how I love that last white ruffled dress! It's gorgeous, especially against someone with tanned skin (which is not me!). When you figure out how to crash the parties, give me a call and I'll be your henchwoman! lol...

  16. So, so fun! I recently read "Seven Days in the Art World" by Sarah Thornton, in which she spends some time at the last Biennale. It sounds (and looks!) incredibly glamorous...

  17. I chime in. Fashion is a form of art, not that I myself really wear it (as a home body), and I have fond memories of Venice in the winter.

  21. Love the juxtapostion of the red in the first image. A bold shot to a historical setting!!!!
I'm in agreement: the mother daughter duo were best dressed. Both love the ribbon tie (as do I) & its wonderful to see it you in a youthful & more mature way.
