Le Figaro has reviewed the film glowingly,
"Every shot in Bright Star has the purity of a painting. Each scene is a lesson in love and literature. This is a film of small powerful gestures, where even a brush of the hands burns with passion."
I recently re-watched The Piano starring Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel and would have to say that I found it even more moving and evocative than my first viewing. Campion's attention to detail, her eye for beauty and her intuitiveness when it comes to the human condition make this particular love story unforgettable. I would also count the soundtrack from this movie as one of my all time favourites.
My fingers are crossed that Bright Star wins the Palme d' Or, not only because I want to support my fellow antipodeans but also because I am an incurable romantic.
Bright Star, Would I Were Stedfast by John Keats 1819
Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art---
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors---
No---yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillowed upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever---or else swoon in death.
Winner or not - I will be one of the first in line to see this film, xv.
From one incurable romantic to another...I can't wait to see it! Thanks for the find and have a great week Vicki!

Cannot wait! Have heard such great things. xox g.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what appears will be a wonderful romance film. We take so much about film making for granted but after the release of Roxana Saberi, it only highlighted the fact that so many artists work underground.
ReplyDeletesounds wonerful. thank you, Vicky, for pointing this film out to us.
ReplyDeleteRight up my alley. I saw Love in the Time of Cholera this past weekend- and will now put the Piano on my list, it's been years since I saw that. Waiting for a much anticipated movie to be released seems to take forever!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm intriqued. I want to see that! Hope you have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I will look for this movie's release in Canada. In the meantime, I'm going to rent the Piano. It was one of my favourite movies also!
ReplyDeleteI hope it wins the Palme D'or too! Can't wait to see this film when it's released in Australia. Lee :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds wonderful and something to look forward to.....a movie with passion....oooh!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Vicki. You are probably writing love poems!
I remember seeing The Piano. It was stunning, so sexual, so raw and refined at the same time. Just blew me away, still have images of the underwater scene in my head years and years later.
ReplyDeleteYou see Bright Star first and let me know if I'm mature enough to handle it.:)
So glad you're here, Vicki, truly enjoy the view from you head.

The snippets I've seen look wonderful Vicki. I loved The Piano as well, & totally fell in love with Harvey Keitel. I won't expand any further on that! Is it true Jane C. walked the red carpet this week in different colour shoes?
ReplyDeleteMillie ^_^
I'll look forward to this one. I admire Jane Campions's work. It stars Abbie Cornish, a lovely Australian actress. LBx

ReplyDeletei'm looking forward to see it! jane campion's films feature some great female characters.
ReplyDeleteLe sigh!!! I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm sure this film will be beautiful Years ago I was working as an extra on a Jane Campion film. It was a pleasure and an honour to be a very tiny, small part of her creative world. She was very well mannered and most kind to all the extras. Not the normal director behaviour I must add! My daughter saw a photo of Abbie Cornish at the premiere and said, "Look Mummy, a beautiful fairy." So sweet.
ReplyDeleteI'll look for it!!
ReplyDeleteThe Piano is one of a kind.
The Piano is one of my all time favourite films, so thank you for letting us know about this one, I can't wait to see it.
