France is the home of the antique market and the French (and me) love nothing more than a day out browsing. In Avignon last weekend there was an antiques 'exposition' full of fantastic furniture and collectibles. I arrived mid morning, which was definitely too late, as many dealers had come as early as 6.00 am to scoop up the very best of the goodies. Even so I could have found myself some treasures...
Are there any treasures you like amongst my snaps?
I thought these chairs were a real possibility and I would be very happy with that painted cupboard, not to mention the clock...
What about the little red choo-choo train - could be very cute filled with pine cones and sitting by the front door for Christmas?
Military madness - why didn't I snap these up? Too much clicking and not enough concentrating ...
I nearly bought this set of glass jars but then decided the shape and the lids were a bit difficult but...
the bolts and bolts of heavy linens on the back table sent me floating to upholstery heaven.
With so much to choose from it became all too exhausting, so like 'red legs' here, I sat down and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
Don't forget to stop and have a delicious lunch or two this weekend, xv.
Love it when you take me shopping.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.

J'adore the red ensemble with the black lamp shade. Fantastic!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shopping trip. And your advice about lunch is so timely! It helps one enjoy the holiday rush a bit more to stop, breathe, and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'll take all of the above! Your antiques look so much more appealing that ours, for some reason. Lovely.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun time!
ReplyDeletewish i was there
This is just a fabulous blog and I'm so jealous you were at that lovely flea market (even though it looks like it was a bit chilly--we're spoiled here in sunny California). I would take that top bureau with 2 drawers, those gorgeous urns, that table with the marble top and the wire chair just for fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, be still my heart! I would have loved to have been on that shopping trip with you! I'd like the clock, the painted cupboard, the chairs... and a different photo, the dresser, the chandelier on top of it, all the candlesticks in the photo, the little table with the other chandelier on top of it, and I'll take that chandelier, too! Send me to the poor house now. LOL. Fortunately for my wallet, and unfortunately for my heart, this was a virtual shopping trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking me along!
Lunchtime here for me, now!
Isa
It was a fun shopping trip even if it was a virtual one. I love the dresser in one of the earlier pics as well as chairs, clock, and painted cupboard. I've heard much about the brocante's in France and would love, love, love to go. I would probably be broke before I left there though.

Wow so many fantastic things in these photos I love the red legs, so funny but cool at the same time!
ReplyDeleteMe and my fiance love antique shopping and ever since he proposed to me with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from www.idonowidont.com we want our wedding to have all antique findings we would buy ourselves.
These are all such fun treasures!
I loved roaming around flea markets in France! So jealous you got to go to Avignon for what sounds like a wonderful Saturday! Next time we are in France, we are planning to visit friends in the south and I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI love the commode in the 2nd picture as well as the 4 chairs in the following photo. I have always had a soft spot for antique French furniture... something so charming and intriguing about the history of it all!
If these are slim pickings! I saw at least 8 things I want!!! That's it, I'm oficially starting a send me to France Fund!!! I'll let my husband know when he gets home from work! Thanks for the shopping trip!!! Perfection as always!

I just keep coming back to that Red Dress / Black Lampshade.... Want it!
ReplyDelete(actually, I've looked at what it is that I long for.... and have had to admit - it's really that I want the body to look like that in a skin tight dress ) JJjjjj
Oh this looks like so much fun! That clock is gorgeous. I think I would have a real spending problem if I had access to fabulous shopping!
ReplyDeleteThat wire chair sent be dreaming. I'm picturing it with a very regal pillow. And Madame in red with the lampshade got me thinking...maybe I need to change my breakfast of choice!

No question here Vicki - MOTH loves 'interesting' hats & I see a few of them resting under that gorgeous little red train. Are they old fireman's helmets? Or could they be his Holy Grail of Silly Hats - a genuine pith helmet?
ReplyDeleteA lovely post - I felt as though as I was standing behind you looking over your shoulder.
Millie ^_^
Thanks Vicki, for the photos, what fantastic finds, it looks like you had a really good time. I love those markets and have never been to one in France. Happy Weekend. hugs Margie.
ReplyDeleteVicki, I love everything! (well, I don't know about the red model figure). I need to come to Avignon... the sales here in California pale in comparison!
ReplyDeleteDelightful post as always. I love the cupboard and the red choo choo train and the military cards? I think they are cards. I love quirky. The idea of the pinecone in the train is gorgeous. I do love pinecones at any time of year!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been antiquing in far too long.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of 'Antiquing in Avignon' much better than 'Antiquing in Crooked River Ranch' though... maybe that's my problem...
Great post! Oh, everything would look fabulous in my home! Luckily, I live on another continent or I would be in big trouble after spending all my dollars at the flea market. Thanks for taking us with you on your fun day.
ReplyDeleteThat's it. I'm moving. American antique shopping just doesn't shine a candle to this stuff! Sigh...
ReplyDeleteHow I'd love to go with you! My husband doesn't care for any kind of weekend excursions, and life is so short!
ReplyDeleteOh to pick through these lovely French things and find a memento or two!
I'll take the Swedish clock and that desk right next to it. I'll send my address to your email! thanks!

ReplyDeleteOoh I LOVE that clock. It is so whimsical looking... Sounds like a very rewarding day.
ReplyDeleteyou've a sharp eye madame !
ReplyDeleteIt's a no brainer for me. I would have that red lady with the lamp shade on her head, standing in my cottage doorway, in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteOr is that you :)
Vicki, I am setting you a challenge, if you have a moment pop over to Margie's Crafts to find out about it. Hope you are enjoying the weekend. hugs Margie.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you already knew that I would love that
painted cabinet!

Brooke
that lady? vicki is that you?
ReplyDeletei need to get to france again... sooner than i planned!
Ahh Vicki, just what I needed on the first stinking hot day of a Perth summer, a glimpse into the life of somebody living my fantasy life. I'm not quite sure whether to laugh or cry.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog via Carla and if you are happy with it I am adding you to my so far, rather limited reading list of Australians living the dream.
One day maybe I will be on that list myself. . .
Wow, that shopping trip looks amazing, what great finds everywhere! My fav has to be the clock, that thing is awesome- I wish I had it for my house!
ReplyDeleteJust came by from Brooke's blog Velvet & Linen to congratulate you on your win. I won one of her charms to0. Your blog is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite from the flee market is the curving stair railing!
This is so great, and I love the clock for sure!!!
ReplyDeletexo xo
I REALLY want those urns!

This is one of my absolute favorite activities. Of all the times I visited France, I never had the opportunity to antique shop there--which you better believe I regret.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine antiquing in France.....thank you for sharing your shopping ventures with the blogging world! ~Cheryl
ReplyDeleteLovely Blog you have.
Beautiful treasures ! I love to go to this avignon 's market . I always find lovely things
ReplyDeleteLove the clocks and the chest of drawers. See how your attention span could be short... just so many lovelies. No doubt the meal was delicious!
ReplyDeleteI know I've said it before, but your photos always make me want to run to JFK and hop on a plane to France! Love these photos!! Browsing vintage markets is a favorite pastime of mine too!
ReplyDeleteI love *many* of the treasures amongst your photos! Those military graphics are lovely, and I love some of the old, chippy painted furniture I am seeing. Looks like a good outing!
