Lights off at 9pm

How many magazines can a girl subscribe to? In my case the answer is too many - but how I love them. I justify the subscriptions with the excuse that it costs so much less than buying them from the store - really it is a crime not to, isn't it? Do I read them all? The answer is of course - no, I don't - not because I don't want to but because I would need to be the speediest reader on the planet to wade through the volume. So these are some of the images I have looked at in the last few nights - images that made me sigh, that made my heart skip a beat, that made me want to repaint, refurnish and re-curtain. I have eclectic taste that is for sure - one minute I am wanting a contemporary 'less is more interior' and the next minute I am salivating at the thought of panelled walls and ornate mouldings. But whatever - fickle is fun.

orange mesh chair - dead cool

petal shaped chair - 'enchanted forest' like

this reminds me of grandma's parlour

so grand - love a family crest

a pavillion (with it's own lake) - i want one please

a long gallery - in case i track my ancestors

ornate carving and velvet - a winning combination

groovy light against traditional cornice

the very clever mix of two black and white fabrics

to recline on that chaise and watch the curtains billow

baccarat - always brilliant

so old fashioned and long baths are my thing right now

such a pretty table

the princess and the pea comes to mind

i am partial to this console

chinoiserie heaven

boy heaven

fit for nigella, jamie and gordon

simple and beautiful

aubergine walls with oak furniture - love the brave

 this bathroom shouts luxury

panelling with contemporary

because i just do

and the French magazines are stacked ready for my next few nights entertainment.

  1. There's nothing like the escapism of a magazine or two to send you off in to another world. It's one of my favourite things to do. And you deserve it after all that olive picking. Great pictures!

  3. Oh, this made me look forward to the December magazines, which I love!
The World of Interiors is my favourite for Christmas, alongside Elle Decoration and Swedish Skona Hem for variation. Thanks for doing this post even though you have been picking olives!

  4. I can't go past the gorgeous combination of the bold and the delicate black and white upholstery, and I bet that bath is appealing to you right now!
I hope you find time to enjoy the olives soon :)

  5. Hi Vicki - i am the same , nothing like a nice fresh magazine to browse through. I usually have a quick flick through, concentrate on my favourite pages and then go back to it later on, even months later. I have a hard time recycling them - if ever! Pure escapism! Mel xxx

  6. I would say my taste is eclectic as well. I am like you, one minute less is more, the next color, color, color. I love looking through magazines and dreaming of what I would or would not do. It's like having a wish book!
After all the olive picking you have done you deserve to relax with a good magazine.

  7. HI Vicki! You are a gal after my own tastes! I know about the magazines...I am the same! I'm almost embarrassed to count how many I subscribe to! The photos..A feast for my eyes! I love that Orange mesh chair. Thanks for the dose of inspiration for the day! Please get some rest!

  8. I know what you mean about being fickle! I alternate between being obsessed with the clean, modern lines of Danish teak furniture, and the antique appeal of french bergere chairs and the like...I'm still trying to figure out how I can do it all in my tiny one bedroom apartment!

Oh, and I go to bed a 9 pm too, but I don't spend all day picking olives, so what's my excuse?!

  9. How do you do it all? You are amazing! Your posts always have that french essence of effortlessness...such a joy to read. As for the perusing of magazines - I fall asleep with one on my chest every night - whether too tired to open it or not! It's crazy - I treat them like pets!

  10. My only addiction! Whenever MOTH has a dig about the amount of mags I buy, my standard retort is "So you'd be OK if I was sitting down @ the Pub, with a smoke in one hand, a glass of plonk in the other, all the while feeding my mag. money into the Pokies!"
That image is just so foreign to him, that he never has a quick reply & I escape again!
Beautiful images - & of course it's OK to have your feet in many decorating camps, that the fun thing about design!

  11. I, too, am very fickle when it comes to design... one minute I am Chinoiserie, the next Art Deco- it changes every day!

I love getting magazines too- they are like an unexpected present in the mail box...

    Great images...

you're so lucky to live in St Rémy !
i was born in Aix and miss the Provence at times

  14. I also adore sitting down with a new magazine stack. I want to not buy so many but they are a real pleasure for me so why not?! I have had to start cutting out the pictures I love most as I can't keep them all! I particularly love the black and white chair with the stripes and the other fabric. Absolutely gorgeous.

  15. A great way to recuperate from olive picking Vicki - beautiful places shown in your mags.

So you know you're not alone - we all buy too many decorating mags. and use the same excuse for subscriptions, cheaper! Personally I'm trying to cut back - the ones I love and must keep are, Victoria, Romantic Homes, Country Home (all US publications), UK Country Living and Cote Sud ( the last one I have to search for at an independent bookshop as I don't have a sub.)

Must be almost the end of the harvest - sounds like a great year!
