Like Dorothy, I feel as if I have magically clicked my heels together and landed in a wonderful place called Oz. Actually it was not so much the vigorous clicking of my heels but the mighty jet engines of a 747 that have transported me home to my native Sydney.
And like Dorothy I have my own borrowed 'wheels' not heels to race from one adventure to the next.
What a machine - lime green and spoiler to match. I have never been paid so much attention (good and bad) on the roads before! I am a white, silver or dark blue 'flat enamel paint' colour kind of girl when it comes to a car, and here I am encased in this lime green metallic fantasy. My friends love it - take great pleasure in questioning my so called lapse in good taste (actually I am quite partial to a bit of chartreuse or even lettuce green - that is how I prefer to affectionately describe 'the beast'.
So for the next ten days I shall be racing around old Sydney town in 'the beast' so if anyone sees me (you can't miss me - I am the only green gal, shining ever so brightly, on the roads) please flash those lights or toot that horn.
Before they change their minds (when they see this post and find out the true me!) I want to thank the gorgeous Kelli from A Rendezvous with Style and the divine Judith from Paris Atelier for my most treasured blog awards.
As in all good things there are rules, so
I have mentioned the blogs that gave me the awards and I have let them know how excited I am to be included. I need to list six things I value. Kelli and Judith have so eloquently written about the things that we all value so dearly that all I want to say right now is this,
I am so happy to wake up to a glorious Sydney sunshine day and for once be able to call my parents, my brother, my nieces or my friends and not think about the time difference.
I can play with my niece's three gorgeous girls in person after school and listen to their adorable banter - rather than learn of their news by email.
I can spend real time with my oldest and dearest friends - that is the absolute in luxury.
I am surrounded by familiarity - I can indulge in Aussie sense of humour and split my sides laughing with girlfriends. (there is nothing like a laugh with the girls)
But not to leave him out, I am with my husband - a workaholic and whirlwind traveller! We are actually in the same place at the same time for once.
And..... I get to drive the green beast.
I need to pass on this award to twelve creative and clever bloggers - that is just not possible, because in the couple of short months that I have been blogging I have encountered hundreds of blogs that are visually beautiful, informative, funny, creative and so deserving of mention.
So would anyone, who feels inclined, leave me a comment and mention something of value or that thing you love most about your home town.
Love your answers Vicki! I am so glad to hear that you are home and enjoying every minute with family and friends!
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to see Sydney from a native's perspective... I will be tuning in every day for more!
BTW ~ LOVE Sergio's impression on Dorothy's slipper! SO SEXY!!!

I have just stumbled across your blog and I am so glad I did- I've lived in Paris and have spent extensive time in the South of France so I love reading other people's perspectives on French life!
ReplyDeleteI live in Santa Monica but just spent a few weeks in London so I can really relate to this post- the warm and familiar feelings of home are unparalleled. I would say the top things I love about Santa Monica are: the warm sun, the ocean breeze and the beautiful houses and gardens...
One thing I am thankful for and value is the unconditional love of my husband, children and grandchildren. The ability to be near them and share in their ups and downs. It is also the realization that we are all part of a much larger circle than just that of our families, a universal family that brings together all kinds of people working together for the betterment of all of mankind.
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't get any better than that!!!
Kris
Bienvenue home! I'm a Sydneysider and will look out for your little car Sounds as if I can't miss it! So, terribly hot today I wish for you some cooling sea breeze.
ReplyDeleteOh Vicki - how I've loved reading this post! This week we are sharing a similar experience, but across the country. I arrived in Perth this morning from Adelaide to spend the week working. There waiting for me in my Avis bay was a mean silver Ford XR6, complete with spoiler, mags, double exhausts & bonnet scoop!!
ReplyDeleteThis is sooooo not me - have the old trusty Mumsy 4WD @ home & this is such a Hoon-mobile!! Its certainly turned heads wherever I've gone today. Have just phoned 3 of the boys & told them & they are mortified to think that their sweet Mum is spinning around Perth in this toy - they are green with envy! Ooops, no pun intended re your 'wicked' car!
Millie ^_^
Millie - 'hoon-mobile', I love it, and that is truly a name that befits the green beast! What is it with Avis nowadays??
ReplyDeleteOh Vicki thank you so much for calling by ... and welcome home for your stay. I'll just have to get your gorgeous book now, it has such a beautiful cover and it will have all the more meaning now ...Enjoy your stay...
ReplyDeleteWELCOME BACK Vicki!!! - have a fabulous time with family and friends while you are in Sydney xx
ReplyDeleteVicki, enjoy your trip and all the joys of meeting those who share your dreams and hopes. It really is very special to meet up with your loved ones and be filled with the spirit of home. Have fun trail blazing in the "hot rod". Margie.
ReplyDeleteOh Vicki... have a wonderful time back home... I have to agree that there is no place like home as Dorothy said! My hometown is nothing spectacular in itself it is just the people and the beautiful changes of season that I love most!

Welcome back in Oz Vicki, hope you're having a wonderful time catching up with family and friends! Tracey x

ReplyDeleteWelcome home Vicki! The weather has been rather fickle but you should be able to catch a few truly lovely spring days before you return up north :)
ReplyDeleteI too will be looking out for your green beast lol. Did you book your hair appointment at Mr Ngata's? My daughter and I will be having a girly pampering day there on November 10th. I can't wait!!
I loved reading your values. I'm learning also to cherish every moment I spend with my loved ones.
Anna :)
This makes me so happy to that you are home! I once lived away from my family for a year and 1/2 and hated it! And it was only 30 mintues away by plane, too. I feel so bad for you that you are so far away from your family but sometimes that can be a good thing! haha!!! I would love to see the green beast! Enjoy your time at home with your friends and family = I am SO happy for you!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, so nice to be home! The car sounds awesome. When I think of home I think of where I grew up - Auburn, NY in the Finger Lakes region. In the summer it reminds me a bit of Ireland w/rolling green hills. This week it's blanketed in an early snow storm. What I miss most about it is the down-to-earth friendly people. We live in the Washington, DC area which is great fun but sometimes I miss the corn fields and the apple orchards...
