Ile St Louis...

The time after the sun sets and before the street lights come on is a magical time for photographers. So with this in mind, Carla and I walked to a spot on the Isle St Louis so she could snap away - As ever, I was her very willing accomplice.

This island in the middle of the Seine is home to some of Paris' finest real estate (and also the most delicious Berthillon ice cream). Elegant 17th Century stone townhouses face the river - If only I could have climbed up those balconies and seen inside the apartments -  imagine the extraordinary interiors I might have found....

As the light faded and the drizzle started to deter even our robust spirits, we waved back at the passengers on the Bateaux-Mouches and called it a day.

The cafes and restaurants looked so warm and cosy,

and we even had time for a bit of window shopping,

I don't know whether I like the groovy 60's chairs or the flashing blue Eiffel Tower more!

  5. Ahhh, one of my absolute favorite places in Paris! My hubby and I had a very romantic dinner at Chez Philippe one night as rain drenched the city outside. Gorgeous isle full of history, beauty and intrigue!

  12. Another beautiful tour. I especially love the cafe photo with the pavement glistening in the rain (I guess I'm a little obsessed with the idea of rain in Paris this week!) Thank you for taking us along!

  14. For me, Ile St.Louis and its nieghboring and much more snobbish Ile de la Cite are the heart and essence of Paris, and have been for hundered of years! Have a couple friend who live on both islands, both apts facing the Seine, 16th century buildings, really just so way over the top with hidden tunnels, walk in fireplaces that connect to residence next door thru hidden walls, etc, that kind of thing. Also, my namesake, the privately held hotel particuluer Hotel Lambert, owned by the French Rothchilds for decades, is the piece de resistance of this magical locale. Great post. Merci.
