Kristin Scott Thomas' performance is heart wrenching as a woman returning to civilian life after her incarceration and Elsa Zylberstein, who plays her sister, is equally as strong in the supporting role. I have seen most of Kristin Scott Thomas' movies and also I have watched her perform on the stage in London so I am a bit of a fan - but always in the English language. She was just as impressive and believable speaking in French albeit with a slight English accent. I admire her ability to express profound emotion in a second language.
This is not the movie to see if you are down in the dumps, but if you feel like a solid dose of drama (can handle subtitles) and don't mind the emotional turmoil, it is superb.
i will be check it out. thanks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good movie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the headsup. She has long been one of my favorite actresses and I hadn't heard of this one.
ReplyDeleteLisa & Alfie
This is my kind of movie Vicki - thanks for the recommendation. I'll even try to close my eyes as best as I can, not read the subs & see how much French langauge I can understand/remember!
ReplyDeleteMillie ^_^
I loved this movie ! It is so meaningful and it made you think about a lot of important things
ReplyDeleteI've always admired Kristen Scott Thomas too. I'll watch for this on Netflix - thanks for the heads up not to watch it when you're down in the dumps. I can recommend a very good German film about two brothers who go to Japan. It's called Enlightenment Guaranteed and it's a great movie if you need a pick me-up. Meaningful and joyous in it's own way.
ReplyDeleteI saw the affiche last March plastered all over and enfin it opens in New York tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait!!!
