french post script... paris postcards for you...

I want to practice my hand writing... loop those 'l's and curl those 's' letters like I used to... Looking at these calligraphy photographs has inspired me... Leave me a comment or an email if you would like one of my Parisian postcards that I bought from Melodies Graphiques and I will start writing straight away... I have ten cards and I would be so delighted to send them to you... I will randomly draw some names next week and be in touch...

If you feel like writing... more French Stationery to love...

  14. Yes! Please choose me! I am a lapsed calligrapher and actually got the ink out for the first time in about 9 years last week... and then I read your last post, and I even mentioned it in my post today! It is meant to be.
(www.shinyhappyart.com) I love your posts and dream of bringing my daughters to Paris one day...

  15. I have always loved to write, particularly in cursive. As a museum curator, I was recently asked to comment on the fact that many schools in America no longer teach handwriting. This touched a nerve in me. Historically, handwriting was one of the outward expression of a person's education and intellect--a reflection of one's self. In this age of the internet, email, Twitter, texting, etc. we are losing or have lost this belief that the artistry a person's handwriting has a value. Brava to you for this post and for calling attention to the beauty of handwriting!

  16. I am one of those fortunate people who m naturally has a lovely handwriting, This I inherited from my mother.Recently, a friend introduced me to Lsmy pens with the broad tipnand what fun it is to experiment with the varied ink colors, let alone Lamy pen colors.

it didn't end there, as I recently purchased a Sailor pen. Scottsdale has a wonderful pen store called Pen Works. I also collect sntique post cards and would appreciate one of your French examples. I really love yourposts. What a great way to get my day started.

  19. Over the years I have studied calligraphy and love to write - it's so relaxing and beautiful. Still not the best, but I'm happy with what I create. Was blessed to visit Provence and Paris in 2005 - long to go back but waiting for my Money Fairy to visit, lol.
Did put in a March birthday present request for a Lamy Safari pen; hope someone surprises me.
Please, awaiting word by way of a postcard from you... Judith B. Texas

  21. Hi Vicki - as I mentioned before, I love calligraphy and the written word. I would be honored to receive a handwritten card from you if you were to pick my name! So, please add me to the list and I'll keep my chilly fingers warmly crossed in hopes one of these beautiful cards appears in my mailbox here 'across the pond'. With a gorgeous French stamp too I'm sure!

Thanks for the opportunity - and of course, if I'm a lucky winner, I'd keep it tucked inside one of your books - what a great bookmark!

  29. What a nice idea! Lovely, in fact. You know, when you look at REALLY GOOD calligraphy, with the perfect slant to the right and no wonky up and down letters, it truly IS an ART FORM! One of the foremost calligraphers in US lives in my city and I have taken classes from her. Her work is AMAZING. She was once offered a job working as the White House calligrapher and turned it down..she could make a lot more money staying home, doing custom work and teaching classes. There is nothing more beautiful than receiving a perfectly penned letter in the mail. What fun you must be having with these postcards. Thank you for sharing!

  30. After taking Sumi-e (Japanese painting with a caligraphy brush and ink) classes whilst living in Japan, I can understand how you would wish to take up this ind of calligraphy, it is very therapeutic! I hope that one of your postcards will come my way to Belgium!

  32. Well, of course, I would love to receive a post card from Vicki Archer. That would be something I would treasure. You caught my attention with your last post and I thought about pulling out my calligraphy materials too. But I know I'm so out of practice with all this key punching. We do need to keep the art of writing alive.

  33. I was looking on the internet for calligraphy classes. There is nothing more beautiful.

  40. Ooooh, is it too greedy of me to say that I'd love to be added to the list? I always love getting postcards, and I love sending them, too. I practiced calligraphy for years, and I adore it. I hand lettered every one of my wedding invitations--not just the envelopes, but the whole invitations--all 100 of them. That was many years ago when I had a steadier hand and much better eyes! :)

This is such a lovely and generous idea, Vicki. I especially love that it celebrates the art of the written word. xoxo Gigi

  43. At school we were taught Italics which is beautiful when done correctly and unfortunately we all use computers so much that we tend NOT to write notes as we used to. I love to write thank you letters on a deckle edged card with a fountain pen

  47. I immediately sent your blog entry to my friend who owns a stationary store here in Los Angeles. I LOVE the idea of beautifully addressed envelopes, not to mention the letter inside. I write notes frequently to friends, near and far, and feel it enhances our relationships. A text is quick, an email is a clear message but there is nothing like receiving a beautiful card with a simple note in the mail.
Needless to say, I'd love to receive one from you, my friend.
    Best,
    Katrine

  48. I immediately forwarded your blog entry yesterday to my friend who owns a stationary store in LA. I love sending notes to friends, so much richer to receive than an email or text. I'd love to get one from you, my friend.

  49. No need to put me in the running because there are too many people all over the world who want a bit your calligraphy to send a postcard a few towns over! But I do love handwriting, it says so much about a person. Do you remember my post about when I was a Goth? I took so much pride in that even my handwriting was Gothic! I kid you not! T's like crosses, etc. :) It is creative and I still love to write all of my holiday cards by hand--usually with a very simple drawing as well. Makes me happy to do them!

Hope that you had a lovely weekend!

  52. Vicki, I agree with you, I want to get back into writing beautifully again as I have lost my touch because of only typing on the computer. I bought a calligraphy set about 2 years ago for this reason and it is still sitting on the shelf unopened! Thanks for inspiring me to get it out and use it!

  64. It would make my day to receive a postcard from you.....what joy to go the the letterbox and find something so beautiful, instead of a bill!!! I fear the art of hand written letters is fast declining here in Australia, as in the rest of the world......what will our great grandchildren have of us to discover in a forgotten box??
Thankyou for the gentle reminder to pick up a pen.

  65. I think it is so lovely to continue to write cards and letters. I raised my daughters to take the time and Pleasure to write thank you notes not matter how busy they are. Sometimes it takes a gentle reminder.

  69. In a world with "lol" and "OMG" It would be so refreshing to have a real snail mail postcard with beautiful script- oh how I miss this. The French do it so well- just to see that writing and beautiful paper is enough to transport to another world- that oh so Parisienne world where everything is beautiful- even the wrapper around your chicken, butter or fromage! Please send one my way it would make my day xxCorrina.

  70. I think there is nothing better than a REAL piece of mail. People say I have beautiful printing but it seems that I use it less and less frequently. There is a real artistry in writing by hand with a pen. Please share your pretty script Vicki!

  71. Patricia in Christchurch New Zealand. Thank you for your response to the blog written by Sharon At My french Country Home about the Earthquakes in Christchurch. Life has been difficult and reading blogs such as yours and Sharon and others gives some respite from the daily reality. To see lovely homes/gardens etc whilst painful reminding us of losses also gives us hope for the future. Thoughts also to people suffering in Europe from extreme cold and Queensland suffering yet again from floods

There is a lovely store by Katy Jamison on Etsy called K is for Calligraphy, she does special calligraphy stickers, gift tags, etc - I now have lots of lovely different ones to add to my envelopes...unfortunately my handwriting isn't as fabulous as those Paris ones, makes me want to do a Calligraphy course myself!

  89. If you're still accepting names for the drawing, I would love to receive one of your postcards! Several friends and I have decided it really isn't all about Email or Facebook, so we've been writing each other more often . . . sometimes letters, often cards or art postcards. The beauty of a postcard is that you can use it as a bookmark and have the joy of seeing if every time you sit down and open your book.

Thank you for your marvelous pictures, your interesting posts. I enjoy both very much. A super idea! Merci!
