I want to practice my hand writing... loop those 'l's and curl those 's' letters like I used to... Looking at these calligraphy photographs has inspired me... Leave me a comment or an email if you would like one of my Parisian postcards that I bought from Melodies Graphiques and I will start writing straight away... I have ten cards and I would be so delighted to send them to you... I will randomly draw some names next week and be in touch...
If you feel like writing... more French Stationery to love...
Oooh! I would so love to receive mail from France. I have been a follower for ages and prior to that I had pestered booksellers here in Bendigo for your books. I love the work you do with Carla Coulson - and her books as well. Big fan of your work, please do keep sharing.
ReplyDeleteA lost artform.....they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'd love, love, love a postcard from Paris! I'm in India and it'll travel a long way to get here, but it would be wonderful!

ReplyDeleteThat would be lovely! Yes, please.
ReplyDeleteI really love calligraphy it's just not something I seem able to do!! I bet your handwriting is rather elegant.
ReplyDeleteI have been adding some of these addresses to my 'contacts' for when I am back in Paris....this shop looks fantastic.....!!
ReplyDeleteStationary with quality and style - can never get enough of it, be it French or Italian!
ReplyDeleteBonne semaine

Hi Vicki - what great fun to practice script. I love vintage paper, and have collected so much. It's a hobby full of treasure hunting. Thanks for your posts, always engaging. Karen in CT
ReplyDeleteI love the writing on a lot of the old french postcards. So elegant!
ReplyDeleteOui, s'il vous plait!! (Yes, please!!!) Sandy.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I would love a Parisian postcard for my collection. I catch your blog updates around midnite here in Australia and always enjoy the read before heading of to bed.
ReplyDeleteYes! Please choose me! I am a lapsed calligrapher and actually got the ink out for the first time in about 9 years last week... and then I read your last post, and I even mentioned it in my post today! It is meant to be.
ReplyDelete(www.shinyhappyart.com) I love your posts and dream of bringing my daughters to Paris one day...
I have always loved to write, particularly in cursive. As a museum curator, I was recently asked to comment on the fact that many schools in America no longer teach handwriting. This touched a nerve in me. Historically, handwriting was one of the outward expression of a person's education and intellect--a reflection of one's self. In this age of the internet, email, Twitter, texting, etc. we are losing or have lost this belief that the artistry a person's handwriting has a value. Brava to you for this post and for calling attention to the beauty of handwriting!
ReplyDeleteI am one of those fortunate people who m naturally has a lovely handwriting, This I inherited from my mother.Recently, a friend introduced me to Lsmy pens with the broad tipnand what fun it is to experiment with the varied ink colors, let alone Lamy pen colors.
ReplyDeleteit didn't end there, as I recently purchased a Sailor pen. Scottsdale has a wonderful pen store called Pen Works. I also collect sntique post cards and would appreciate one of your French examples. I really love yourposts. What a great way to get my day started.
Oui, j'adorerais une carte postale française…
ReplyDelete…but in English please :)…I love your blog!
…I read it daily for French inspiration!

I would loveee a postcard!!

Over the years I have studied calligraphy and love to write - it's so relaxing and beautiful. Still not the best, but I'm happy with what I create. Was blessed to visit Provence and Paris in 2005 - long to go back but waiting for my Money Fairy to visit, lol.
ReplyDeleteDid put in a March birthday present request for a Lamy Safari pen; hope someone surprises me.
Please, awaiting word by way of a postcard from you... Judith B. Texas
Yes, I'd love one of your gorgeous postcards! What better than to write like a Parisian every day?
ReplyDeletesoficobb2@yahoo.com
Hi Vicki - as I mentioned before, I love calligraphy and the written word. I would be honored to receive a handwritten card from you if you were to pick my name! So, please add me to the list and I'll keep my chilly fingers warmly crossed in hopes one of these beautiful cards appears in my mailbox here 'across the pond'. With a gorgeous French stamp too I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity - and of course, if I'm a lucky winner, I'd keep it tucked inside one of your books - what a great bookmark!
Hugs - Mary
I absolutely adore your blog. I've not commented in the past. Ususally I save your blog for early Sunday mornings when the house is still quiet. Thank you for spreading a little fabulous my way every week!
ReplyDeleteI love Calligraghy. My grandfather lived in Harrogate and he had the most amazing hand writing. It would take him for every to write a note :)
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, I would love to have a French postcard. I have to say that the print/script in your books is lovely. Is it your handwriting? I would love to practice writing better myself.
ReplyDeleteLa trovo un'idea originale. Amo questo tipo di scrittura la trovo affascinante!!!!
ReplyDeleteJALON SMITH BURTON... lots of loops and t's and such! Have fun and enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI would dearly love one of the postcards!
ReplyDeleteI'm a freelance writer and have been setting aside some of my income each week to save for my first (and long dreamed of) trip to Paris. Having your postcard up on my bulletin board would be such an inspiration!
Oh Vicki I would be thrilled to receive a Parisian Postcard from you!

What a nice idea! Lovely, in fact. You know, when you look at REALLY GOOD calligraphy, with the perfect slant to the right and no wonky up and down letters, it truly IS an ART FORM! One of the foremost calligraphers in US lives in my city and I have taken classes from her. Her work is AMAZING. She was once offered a job working as the White House calligrapher and turned it down..she could make a lot more money staying home, doing custom work and teaching classes. There is nothing more beautiful than receiving a perfectly penned letter in the mail. What fun you must be having with these postcards. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAfter taking Sumi-e (Japanese painting with a caligraphy brush and ink) classes whilst living in Japan, I can understand how you would wish to take up this ind of calligraphy, it is very therapeutic! I hope that one of your postcards will come my way to Belgium!
ReplyDeleteOui Oui s'il vous plais!!
ReplyDeleteMerci!
Vicki,
ReplyDeleteI would be delighted to have one of your Parisian postcards! Thank you so much for the opportunity.
Well, of course, I would love to receive a post card from Vicki Archer. That would be something I would treasure. You caught my attention with your last post and I thought about pulling out my calligraphy materials too. But I know I'm so out of practice with all this key punching. We do need to keep the art of writing alive.
ReplyDeleteI was looking on the internet for calligraphy classes. There is nothing more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave you head about the itunesU? Free class on just about everything.
Put my name in the hat. Such a nice gesture.
Teresa

Oh, yes please!
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever get mail written by a human hand, let alone by one that writes beautifully. It would be fun.
Would love to receive one of your gorgeous handwritten postcards. Merci.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely love one of your Parisian postcards penned by your own hand. What a lovely idea...

I would love to receive a beautiful French postcard addressed to me! I have so many vintage ones addressed to other people.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
It would be so lovely to have a French postcard addressed to me (instead of to all those other people, like in my vintage collection)!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Christina
I would adore a French postcard. What a lovely idea.. Merci
ReplyDeleteOoooh, is it too greedy of me to say that I'd love to be added to the list? I always love getting postcards, and I love sending them, too. I practiced calligraphy for years, and I adore it. I hand lettered every one of my wedding invitations--not just the envelopes, but the whole invitations--all 100 of them. That was many years ago when I had a steadier hand and much better eyes! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely and generous idea, Vicki. I especially love that it celebrates the art of the written word. xoxo Gigi
I'm having trouble making my comment go through today for some reason. Not sure if my last attempt worked, so I'll just say that I'd love to be added to the list. This is such a wonderful and generous idea, Vicki, especially since it celebrates the art of writing. xoxo Gigi
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I would love a handwritten postcard from you. How very delightful!
ReplyDeleteAt school we were taught Italics which is beautiful when done correctly and unfortunately we all use computers so much that we tend NOT to write notes as we used to. I love to write thank you letters on a deckle edged card with a fountain pen
ReplyDeleteLast year was the fist year for ages that we didn't visit France and I missed it so much. A postcard from you would bring back happy memories. They look so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get one of the cards. I like creating and sending my own too!
ReplyDeleteNot as calligraphy though
Vicki, this post is lovely. Nothing like good paper and pens, especially from France! I would so enjoy a postcard from you. Warm regards from the US. Rene

I immediately sent your blog entry to my friend who owns a stationary store here in Los Angeles. I LOVE the idea of beautifully addressed envelopes, not to mention the letter inside. I write notes frequently to friends, near and far, and feel it enhances our relationships. A text is quick, an email is a clear message but there is nothing like receiving a beautiful card with a simple note in the mail.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, I'd love to receive one from you, my friend.
Best,
Katrine
I immediately forwarded your blog entry yesterday to my friend who owns a stationary store in LA. I love sending notes to friends, so much richer to receive than an email or text. I'd love to get one from you, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Katrine
No need to put me in the running because there are too many people all over the world who want a bit your calligraphy to send a postcard a few towns over! But I do love handwriting, it says so much about a person. Do you remember my post about when I was a Goth? I took so much pride in that even my handwriting was Gothic! I kid you not! T's like crosses, etc. :) It is creative and I still love to write all of my holiday cards by hand--usually with a very simple drawing as well. Makes me happy to do them!
ReplyDeleteHope that you had a lovely weekend!
What a lovely and thoughtful thing for you to do! I would love to receive something handwritten by you, all the way from France!
ReplyDeleteA Parisian postcard would be most appreciated and give me something over which to be delighted but just reading your blog gives me joy too. Thank you and wishing you a happy day from Arizona, USA.
ReplyDeleteVicki, I agree with you, I want to get back into writing beautifully again as I have lost my touch because of only typing on the computer. I bought a calligraphy set about 2 years ago for this reason and it is still sitting on the shelf unopened! Thanks for inspiring me to get it out and use it!
ReplyDeleteI collect post cards, adore Paris, love your blog, and would be thrilled get a post card from Paris!
ReplyDeleteHi I collect post cards, adore Paris, love your blog, and would be thrilled to get a post card from Paris!
ReplyDeleteHave really enjoyed this post Vicki...thank you for the links too..I now have some Cavallini Paris stamps coming my way. Will be lucky enough to be in Paris in May , so have added Melodies Graphiques to my list of 'must visit'! I would love to receive a hand written postcard from France and especially from you Vicki so add me to the list please :) Jill (Qld)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not #1-10...I would be happy to write you a postcard (or letter) in calligraphy! I am an avid mail artist / letter writer and would love to send you something!
ReplyDeleteI am all about handwritten letters and cards ... To try and do my part to keep the art of letter writing alive, I have even started a free BlogLand Pen Pal group on my blog... to connect people that like to write and receive handwritten letters, cards etc. I would love to win one of your special cards!! xo HHL
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get a postcard. I did my year abroad in France and haven't been back in 20 years and I miss it. I also am a calligrapher (whose skills are quite rusty). Getting one of your postcards would be quite a treat!
ReplyDeleteOoo la la Vicki,
ReplyDeleteYes please - I would love to receive such a lovely postcard.
Interesting as there seems to be a real resurgence in the postcard.
Wonderful how they can transport one to another era!
à bientôt
Shane
I would love to receive a postcard from Paris - I so miss receiving letters. Everything is by email now. Except for awful bills that is!
ReplyDeleteA lovely idea.... I have to tell you that in these times of information overload - blogs, google, twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc etc, I always make time for your blog. It is interesting, informative, well written and has a special quality --- must be that "French Essence"!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I would love to have one, I keep dreaming od Paris and France, hoping against hope we can get there again.
ReplyDeleteI love French postcards and am delighted to see its style used in so much decor right now. Thank you for sharing your French life with us!
ReplyDeleteDorci
It would make my day to receive a postcard from you.....what joy to go the the letterbox and find something so beautiful, instead of a bill!!! I fear the art of hand written letters is fast declining here in Australia, as in the rest of the world......what will our great grandchildren have of us to discover in a forgotten box??
ReplyDeleteThankyou for the gentle reminder to pick up a pen.
I think it is so lovely to continue to write cards and letters. I raised my daughters to take the time and Pleasure to write thank you notes not matter how busy they are. Sometimes it takes a gentle reminder.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely too to have the desire to continue in one of the civilizing aspects of life!
Would so enjoy a postcard from France. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love a postcard from you! I feel like we're friends already and you don't even know me!
ReplyDeleteLovely~ S'll vous plait <3
ReplyDeleteI am a Francophile who loves calligraphy and stationery, so you can imagine how much I've enjoyed your last two posts. "French Essence" helps me start every day with a smile, even though I'm confined to the United States for awhile. Thank you! Leslie in Oregon
ReplyDeleteIn a world with "lol" and "OMG" It would be so refreshing to have a real snail mail postcard with beautiful script- oh how I miss this. The French do it so well- just to see that writing and beautiful paper is enough to transport to another world- that oh so Parisienne world where everything is beautiful- even the wrapper around your chicken, butter or fromage! Please send one my way it would make my day xxCorrina.
ReplyDeleteI think there is nothing better than a REAL piece of mail. People say I have beautiful printing but it seems that I use it less and less frequently. There is a real artistry in writing by hand with a pen. Please share your pretty script Vicki!
ReplyDeletePatricia in Christchurch New Zealand. Thank you for your response to the blog written by Sharon At My french Country Home about the Earthquakes in Christchurch. Life has been difficult and reading blogs such as yours and Sharon and others gives some respite from the daily reality. To see lovely homes/gardens etc whilst painful reminding us of losses also gives us hope for the future. Thoughts also to people suffering in Europe from extreme cold and Queensland suffering yet again from floods
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy postcards, especially those from France. Would love to receive one of yours. A very thoughtful gesture for you to send them!
ReplyDeleteI too would love to receive a postcard as I'm obsessed with paper & pens! I see that your 10 cards are probably already committed seeing all the responses! We all still love snail mail :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a lovely store by Katy Jamison on Etsy called K is for Calligraphy, she does special calligraphy stickers, gift tags, etc - I now have lots of lovely different ones to add to my envelopes...unfortunately my handwriting isn't as fabulous as those Paris ones, makes me want to do a Calligraphy course myself!
Georgy
Oh I would love a postcard from France! In the middle of a hot Australian summer - a note from wintery France would be lovely!
ReplyDeletePick me! Pick me! :o) I have a collection of old colour hand tinted B&W photos that I love so one from you would be so special.
ReplyDeleteI have and enjoy both your books. I also love your style and outlook on life. How delighted I'd be to receive a beautiful postcard from you! Hope I'm one of the fortunate ones chosen to receive one.

That's a rhetorical question, isn't it, Vicki? ;) I would most definitely love to receive one of these postcards, handwritten by you. What a lovely giveaway ~ thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteOoh, Vicki! I'm so late to the party bit would love to throw my hat into the ring. It would be just the thing to lift my spirits following recent developments on Planet Baby. You are so generous in offering this! J x
ReplyDeleteHello Gorgeous! See my last post for what I think about handwritten letters and Lamy fountain pens ☺. J x
ReplyDeleteWhat a SUPER giveaway! I would love to show my daughter such gorgeous writing, to inspire her learning cursive the 'french way', or as my mother says, the RIGHT way! (Pun intended on her part!) LOL
ReplyDeleteTHANKS
Ooooooo! I so wish that I had read this post sooner and, perchance, gotten my name in the hat for a postcard! There's nothing I love more than a pretty piece of mail from some far corner of the globe. Unless of course, it's *sending* a pretty piece of mail from some far corner of the globe!... that's a rather giddy moment too, don't you think? Mais oui
ReplyDeleteHow lovely!

Beautiful script and beautiful post cards. I love them. It is so sad that people do not write letters anymore.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Elizabeth
Oh, send me one too, please.....
ReplyDeleteMuch love and calligraphic inspiration!
xoxo
I would so love to receive a note from France. I dream of someday visiting France myself.
ReplyDeleteI would love to receive a postcard from Paris! It will help a lot to set the mood for our upcoming plan to Visit the city of light this coming April :-)
ReplyDeleteVicki, I bit of french inspiration goes a long way for me in country Victoria, Australia. I too would adore a postcard. Suzana xxx
ReplyDeleteOui! Bien sur! I would love to receive something so beautiful...thank you for the chance!
ReplyDeleteIf you're still accepting names for the drawing, I would love to receive one of your postcards! Several friends and I have decided it really isn't all about Email or Facebook, so we've been writing each other more often . . . sometimes letters, often cards or art postcards. The beauty of a postcard is that you can use it as a bookmark and have the joy of seeing if every time you sit down and open your book.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your marvelous pictures, your interesting posts. I enjoy both very much. A super idea! Merci!
