films for a valentine mood...

I am a romantic... love a romance, love my romance. I am very, very lucky I have been having the same romance with the same guy for longer than I haven't... That's a long time. As it is the month of romance I have put together a list of my most favourite romantic movies. They aren't necessarily French, because we girls have no national boundaries when it comes to love... but they are the ones I watch over and over... the ones to put me in the Valentine mood and the ones that I will be watching this month of February...

And if nothing else romance is always about mood.. Don't you think?

Right mood... room for romance... lots of romance...Wrong mood... Romance takes a back seat and is the furtherest thing from our minds... And that won't do... So... to put you in the mood and in no particular order... my romantic list... Please feel free to add to my romantic meanderings... Happy watching... xv

  7. Oh my, what a fun post, one that all of us need to keep bookmarked for one of "those" nights when only a romantic film will do! I cold add far too many but French Kiss, A Room with a View and Roman Holiday pop into mind right away, not to mention Pride And Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility!

PS Have you see "The Artist" yet....I have to say that Jean Dujardin is my latest crush, he is SO handsome ;) I know he is an established actor in France....I wonder what the French are making of all the Oscar "hoopla" :)

My three favorite romantic films are Random Harvest with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson, Love in the Afternoon with Gary Cooper and Audry Hepburn, and Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audry Hepburn. Love in the Afternoon has the best ending of any movie, ever.

  37. I don't think anyone mentioned Mamma Mia! And a dark love story that has a huge impact is the French Betty Blue - sexy, but sad. A must-see. xx

  38. Ooh Vicki thanks for the reminder about Valentine's Day. It's MOTH's turn to do the full catastrophe this year & the excitement in the air here at The Hedge is almost unbearable - NOT!! Can't think of any more movies to add to your impressive list, but I watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith again the other night & while it's pretty average, it's the movie where Brad & Angelina fell in lust, oops love, in real life. And boy can you tell.... I had to look away at their loves scenes as I felt like I was intruding on something verrrry private. I reckon your loyal FE fans will be able to name a few other movies where the stars actually fell for each other, & in some cases their partners at the time were none too happy!!

Take care, hope you are feeling much better!

  40. I love this list, Vicki! So many of my favorites are here. I would toss a few more into the mix: "Once," "Greenfingers" (Clive Owen could not be cuter, plus he's a gardener in it!), "Moonstruck," and as others have said, "Roman Holiday," which leaves me in a puddle at the end. I think others also mentioned "Under the Tuscan Sun," which I adore, too, most especially for the romance she has with the house, plus my husband loves to watch that movie with me, no matter how many times I've rented it before--now that's romantic! xo Gigi
