I am a romantic... love a romance, love my romance. I am very, very lucky I have been having the same romance with the same guy for longer than I haven't... That's a long time. As it is the month of romance I have put together a list of my most favourite romantic movies. They aren't necessarily French, because we girls have no national boundaries when it comes to love... but they are the ones I watch over and over... the ones to put me in the Valentine mood and the ones that I will be watching this month of February...
And if nothing else romance is always about mood.. Don't you think?
Right mood... room for romance... lots of romance...Wrong mood... Romance takes a back seat and is the furtherest thing from our minds... And that won't do... So... to put you in the mood and in no particular order... my romantic list... Please feel free to add to my romantic meanderings... Happy watching... xv

Roman Holidays, Casablanca, A Man and A Woman, Something Gotta Give and an Affair to Remember (later version with unforgettable Catherine Hepburn) are at the top of my list. Oh my, what a fun post, one that all of us need to keep bookmarked for one of "those" nights when only a romantic film will do! I cold add far too many but French Kiss, A Room with a View and Roman Holiday pop into mind right away, not to mention Pride And Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. Love them all, but Pretty Woman must be on that list...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your list, I would choose every single one of those :)
ReplyDeleteMany of these I haven't watched for years, I shall add them to my To-Do List!!
Funnily enough, I saw "The Way We Were" mentioned somewhere else today, I must watch that again soon, such a brilliant film.
Great post Vicki :)
PS Have you see "The Artist" yet....I have to say that Jean Dujardin is my latest crush, he is SO handsome ;) I know he is an established actor in France....I wonder what the French are making of all the Oscar "hoopla" :)

ReplyDelete.. omg, I totally forgot "When Harry Met Sally" ... oui oui "You've Got Mail" ... I really revisit the movies that end happy ... loved Atonement, but oh such pain. And how many love stories do we have in Downton Abbey !!! ....
ReplyDeleteLove Roms-Coms classic and new. A fave is 'It's Complicated' as set in Santa Barbara--where I'm from...fun to relive that atmosphere. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteLove movies and your readers have added some of my annuals. Love Actually and The Holiday. When I really want to feel romantic..........it is Prince of Tides for me. Especially the last lines. Hope it is a Happy, Happy day over there. XO

ReplyDeletefrancoise coadou-porter
Thank you for all the suggestions. My three favorite romantic films are Random Harvest with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson, Love in the Afternoon with Gary Cooper and Audry Hepburn, and Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audry Hepburn. Love in the Afternoon has the best ending of any movie, ever.
ReplyDeleteMust add....almost all of Gary Cooper's movies are pretty darned romantic!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful list. I'll have to bookmark it for future reference.
ReplyDeleteI would add "Women in Love" to the list. British film (1969) directed by Ken Russell and of course based on the novel by DH Lawrence. Glenda Jackson, Alan Bates and entire cast were wonderful. Sure to bring tears, laughter and pull at the heart strings!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, I've got nothing to add, you've got all my favorite!!! (especially The Holiday, Sleepless in Seatle, You've got Mail, and Titanic). February is the most romantic month of the year, so let's celebrate it with our favorite romantic movies.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog : )
Danielle xo
You know, I love The Philadelphia Story. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAnd Truly, Madly, Deeply gets me, too.
Oh, and Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility! Such a romantic film.
I too have been with my hubby longer than I haven't :-)
ReplyDeleteLoving your list, there are a few I need to watch - eek! Jane Eyre is a definite favourite. I have been lucky enough to play her twice on stage. Role of a lifetime.
Has anybody said Pride & Prejudice yet?
~ Clare x
YES OUI SI.....tous ces films sont super!! VICKI DEAREST, thank you for stopping by. Enjoy this month of love mon amie. I was wearing my little star earrings yesterday! BISES, Anita
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I just finished watching the BBC series "Cranford". It was adorable. The lines that can be quoted just go on and on. There are several wonderful Valentine's Day scenes that are perfect for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!!!! Love Actually is probably in the top five of my favorite movies ever!
ReplyDeleteTis the season of Love in air!! Watching love and curling up~
ReplyDeletexxxs's
Let's not forget "Pillow Talk" or any Doris Day-Rock Hudson movie and 'Pride and Prejudice' with Colin Firth! swoon ;-}
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone mentioned Mamma Mia! And a dark love story that has a huge impact is the French Betty Blue - sexy, but sad. A must-see. xx
ReplyDeleteOoh Vicki thanks for the reminder about Valentine's Day. It's MOTH's turn to do the full catastrophe this year & the excitement in the air here at The Hedge is almost unbearable - NOT!! Can't think of any more movies to add to your impressive list, but I watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith again the other night & while it's pretty average, it's the movie where Brad & Angelina fell in lust, oops love, in real life. And boy can you tell.... I had to look away at their loves scenes as I felt like I was intruding on something verrrry private. I reckon your loyal FE fans will be able to name a few other movies where the stars actually fell for each other, & in some cases their partners at the time were none too happy!!
ReplyDeleteMillie xx
A wonderful post, chere Vicki! And how beautiful that your own story is full of romance.. :))
ReplyDeleteI adore many of these films, but I'll add "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg"...pa da da, da da da da dum, da da da da dum....do you know the song??? So lovely..
Take care, hope you are feeling much better!
xoxo,
- Irina
I love this list, Vicki! So many of my favorites are here. I would toss a few more into the mix: "Once," "Greenfingers" (Clive Owen could not be cuter, plus he's a gardener in it!), "Moonstruck," and as others have said, "Roman Holiday," which leaves me in a puddle at the end. I think others also mentioned "Under the Tuscan Sun," which I adore, too, most especially for the romance she has with the house, plus my husband loves to watch that movie with me, no matter how many times I've rented it before--now that's romantic! xo Gigi
ReplyDeleteI think Atonement is one of the best films ever made. And try DeLovely for a truly beautiful, magical romance movie. xx's
ReplyDelete'Hope Floats' with Sandra Bullock and 'The Piano' is a must! 'Six Days Seven Nights', my husband like to watch 'Under the Tuscan Sun with me too, I agree with Gigi it's great no matter how many times you watch it!
