feel like french cooking?...

Perhaps it is because I like food and I love to eat or maybe it is because I spend too much time in France... but whatever the reason I do have a thing for a French cookbook.... especially the illustrated ones.... Turning the pages, imagining the flavours, choosing the menu... planning where I would buy the ingredients and thinking up how I would style and set the table... working out the preparation and the cooking time... these are the pleasures that can come from the pages of a good cookbook...

The above are some of my favourites... you can find them HERE... xv

  1. Love, love this photo Vicky! You are styling away I can see. I did "know how to cook" but may possibly need a few new cookbooks to get me back on board. What I know and what I am doing are two different things these days........I hope it is not gone forever. My husband is losing weight. Much love XO

  3. I have a few French cookbooks. They look so pretty on the shelf! :) Sadly the only real French dish I make is a pretty good pear tarte!

  5. Bonjour Sharon. I see you have included Ginette Mathiot's book. This was one of the gifts I received from my mother in law after our wedding, years ago. I must say it turned out to be a very useful one. Ginette knows her French basics, c'est certain, and she has helped me out on a regular basis over the last 20 years! 6. One of the most pleasurable activities when the weather turns cold is making Julia's Boeuf Bourguignon. I read cookbooks in bed like novels.

  11. I got Julia's cookbook for my Mom for Christmas last year. We made crepes. They were divine!

It's so hard for me to cook lately - with preparing for my holiday concert and practicing the harp, I'm feasting if I can boil pasta!

  14. I hate to say this, but I love the daydreaming involved in planning a meal, more than the actual cooking.

  15. Hi Vicki, you must be my sister from another mother!- I am a book-a-holic but the kind of book that comes a close second to decorating books are my cook books many of which are French. Although most of them are devine eye-candy I do actually cook out of them. I have alot of the ones pictured and in your shop. There are a few I have that I didn't see you might want to check out-'At My French Table' by Jane Webster- the photography is devine and most recipes fairly easy-its recipes are seasonal which also helps, try her cheese sables in the spring section with a glass of sparkling wine as an appetiser! Yum. Aso 'So French' by Dany Chouet is her life story and recipes and for the cookbook to beat all cookbooks 'Ripailles' by Stephane Reynaud- these are authentic and by the most part very rustic and simple plus it just looks impressive. xxCorrina.

  17. I have so many cookbooks in my kitchen, sometimes I wonder if I have them to cook or just for the fun of having them. And most precious of all, I still have my grandmother's recipes, in her own handwriting. I like the way you consider the French way of life... It is lovely!
