Kare said....'The Oil of Olay advanced cleansing system works just as well as the Clairisonic. It makes a huge difference in just a couple of days.'
The Enchanted Home had some brilliant suggestions ....'I like the ol' tea bags on the eyes for bags, it really does work.I do mix a moisturizer with foundation in my palm to give it a silkier feel. Also will use foundation under a lipstick deemed to dark or colorful to tone it down. Grapefruit oil is a great natural moisturizer....and can be found in all health food stores.'
And from Maeghan...'I put olive oil in my hair and cover it in Glad Wrap for half an hour before shampooing it out and every now and then I'll wear it as a night cream on my face...'
Miss B said.... 'I too walk through my perfume mist but also put some behind my knees! (not sure where I got that tip from!) My must-have beauty product is Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. It really does make my skin look brighter.'
Sande...you always make me laugh....'Need all the tricks! being a gal with blonde eyelashes, I always said if it wasn't for make-up.........I wouldn't be married. mascara is my number one weapon...'
I Dream of told me that... 'The Clarisonic is amazing -- it was invented here in Seattle! Their Opal is a great little beauty secret, too.'
From Lost in Provence...'I do have one good one: stop washing your face with water. Use rosewater in the morning and Bioderma Crealine H2O at night. It works even with my very sensitive redhead skin.'
Hopflower...I am on it....'Failing to wear eyeliner as we get on in years is a big mistake, due to our eyes drooping a bit (gravity). Just a small flick at the end helps to add a more balanced look.'
Karen reminded me that a professional treatment is a must...'I have taken to doing regular facials and scrubs lately. There is something lovely about going to the salon and having someone pamper your skin~'
aBroad had some practical advise..'.I like to steam myself .. just let the hot water run and fill the room and sit there a while and relax ( or lie in the tub) ... does wonders for skin and nerves ~'
Kate gave me a very important reminder... 'I would like to add the reminder to wear a zinc based sun protection cream every day. Other sun protection needs constant reapplication, but the zinc based products last all day (unless you are exercising or perspiring of course). The dermatologist also pointed out to me the importance of using only products such as Cetaphil (a non soap product) to clean the skin, and warned me off toner as too harsh for mature skin. The dermatologist was a good advertisement for these tips, as her skin was flawless.'
Tina said...'try Suvana, so much better than Lucas Pawpaw...'
LindaCarol reminded me of Clinique's black honey lipgloss...'great for the weekends...'
Wendy has a great sense of humour..I loved the advise from her grandmother....'Powder and paint make you what you ain't, but it sure does help.'
Ewa says to try the Giorgio Armani mascara...the beeswax makes it stay on longer...and the YSL foundation...
And from Jan...who is a chef extraordinaire ...to keep hands smooth and clear apply a granulated sugar and lemon juice mix for a great scrub...
You girls are just the best...Shall we keep the conversation going? What have we forgotten?....xv

Fantastic round up of even more great tips..and thank you for including me in the mix. I don't think we can EVER have too much beauty advice....gotta keep learning!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Vicki
ReplyDeleteI love reading all these wonderful tips. It seems we all have our 'tried and true' formulas.
When in need of moisturizer I often fall back to Eucerin Original Formula - it is excellent.
One of my all time favourite moisturizers is made by two women in a rural town in Ontario, namely http://twoherbalmamas.com/
the rosemary moisturizer is excellent (I find the scent of rosemary on my face too much for me) They do make me a batch of Rose perfumed moisturizer which is fabulous, but I must order a whole box of 10 or 12. It is a perfect moisturizer for cold climates.

For thinning eyebrows (or to make one even with the other), I've used men's extra-strength Rogaine on a cotton swap stroked over the brows every night for a month. It works.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a few uncoated aspirin dissolved in a few drops of rosewater is an inexpensive exfoliating "mask" that really sloughs and softens.
Beauty tips have peeked my interest since the time I started reading Seventeen magazine - so many years ago. Now that I'm in my 50's, they interest me even more. My tip? Buy books that are FULL of tips! Right now my three favorites are The Makeup Wakeup, by Johnson & Linter, How To Never Look Fat Again, & How Not To Look Old, both by Charla Krupp. Helped me!
ReplyDeleteSo right about zinc based sunscreen. I never realized how important that would be when I started using it every single day .... in my early twenties.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love Mario Badescu products, especially their masks. Another trick... my dermatologist told me years ago that my skin was too sensitive for any type of exfoliation... so... she recommended that I wash my face with a washcloth. All the exfoliation I need. So right!
But the best.... sleep, good nutrition, and laughter!
My beauty tips are water, sleep and laughter!
ReplyDeleteAsk for Shellac nail polish when you have your next manicure.... it lasts for 2 weeks without chipping and the French manicure looks tres magnifique!
ReplyDeleteThe best thing my mother told me in relation to skin care was ...never go to bed with your makeup on - no matter how late, how tired or if you have had too many champagnes - take it off and apply a rich night cream every night. Be kind to your skin and it will be kind to you.
ReplyDeleteI have used cucumber on the tired eyes since I was a teenager,I meant to mention Clarins Beauty Flash
ReplyDeleteBalm last week saw that you put it on the list today, it is really lovely under foundation.
Lemon rubbed over tired old hands is also good.

Great discussion. To add to the many words of wisdom. I find that concealer either turns yellow or pink on me so I use a slightly lighter foundation under my eyes. Estee Lauder do a good one in a small tube. Always curl eyelashes it makes such a difference. (ShuUemura make the best eyelash curlers)
ReplyDeleteLove reading your posts and tips. Some one told me that if your favorite perfume is too strong, you can spray it on before a shower and you get just a small scent.
ReplyDeleteOhhh I loved this and read every word--I am such a beauty junkie as well as beauty editor always hunting for the best and healthiest ways to keep sensitive skin like mine nice...expensive does not always mean better, but I do agree that a great facial every once in a while will make you feel like a new person! For me, less is more, although I recently added in an organic skin oil that goes under the organic face cream. It helps dry skin stay moisturized. Can't wait to read more suggestions Vicki!

I love all the tips and hints....mine is, I put a few drops of olive oil and a teaspoon of salt in my hands and massage them all over. They look and feel amazing. Would work with sugar too. I use SK-II products most of the time but the oil cleansing method for faces is terrific. Mix 10 drops of olive oil with 2-3 drops of castor oil and masage it into your face, then wipe off with a warm face cloth. It moisturises and cleanses. After a few days your skin feels and looks terrific.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the tips. love 'em
Lesley
I can use these! Love the new header. And a very Happy Halloween to you!

Vicki thanks for this great round up! I needed a little autumn beauty push and this helped! xx
ReplyDeleteAnd love the new blog header, by the way!
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a great fun, and informative post.
ReplyDeleteWho needs a team of beauty experts when we have the real deal right here! A little cream blush goes a long way. Keep some in your bag for emergencies, it can be blush, lipstick and eye shade in a pinch!!
Hugs,
Patti
I am no good with 10 or so items that have to be applied in order to achieve the best skincare. I have tried it many times however have no attention span for that type of routine.I really love Eve Lom Cleanser and am completely committed to Payot AOX which is an all in one moisturiser eyes included. The moment I used this my skin felt fabulous and I have quite dry skin. Love it.
ReplyDeleteMy tip is to always get samples before you buy something. You'll find out pretty quickly how your skin/scalp reacts to it (especially those with sensitivity issues), and you'll save a ton of money by doing so. Sadly, I've learned this lesson the hard way.
