Jane Eyre, the latest movie version, directed by Cary Fukanaga and starring Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender and Dame Judi Dench is a two hour visual treat. English countryside from the bleak to the beautiful, period costumes and interiors that are severe but evocative make this favourite Charlotte Bronte tale of love, betrayal and compassion come to life on the big screen.
Definitely worth a watch for the romantics amongst us....To listen to the director and Mia Wasikowska discuss the making of Jane Eyre click here....to view the DVD click here....

Oh, yes, the short of this favourite classic looks to be very well done....definitely my cup of tea! Thanks for the links, Vicki.
ReplyDeleteAgree Vicki, a wonderful, visual treat. I first watched it mid flight and continuted to watch it 3 times ( 14 hour flight) and knew it had to be fully appreciated on the big screen. Back in Surrey, I grabbed my daughter and off we went. She loved it too....
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Vicki, on this warm sunny October morning....

Mine too. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteJ'avais beaucoup le film... Jane Eyre était alors interprété brillamment par Charlotte Gainsbourg...
ReplyDeleteGros bisous
I have always loved how Jane Eyre (the book) is written in the first person. I will enjoy watching this movie. Thanks for alerting me to it!

Can't wait to see this - everyone I know has loved it. I'm afraid it will be on a night when my husband is out as he doesn't love these period movies as I do!!
ReplyDeleteI rented this a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it!
ReplyDeleteI watched this excellent movie in a very uncomfortable Delta flight coming back from Nice this summer. Even though my heart was heavy (after leaving France once again) and my legs were stiff (from sitting in my cramped seat) this magical movie helped me forget it all for a couple of hours. An excellent version indeed. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteLoved it so much I saw it twice, it was so incredibly beautiful in terms of scenery, the home the costumes in a slightly cold, beautiful eerie way if that makes any sense....loved it!
ReplyDeleteI loved this movie... I'm always a bit stand offish about Jane Eyre movies as it is my favorite book ... but this one is by far the best that I've seen. Mr Rochester is perfection in this version, yes?!

ReplyDeleteI loved this movie ... and, hello, Michael Fassbender...need I say more?
ReplyDeleteWow, where have I been? I didn't even know there was a new film. I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm hanging to see this! I've been lucky enough to play Jane twice on stage & it will always be my favourite role. Glad to hear this version is worth the watch!

The book is my favorite, one I re-read every year. And I'm so happy with how the movie turned out.
ReplyDeleteI love this story Vicki and it was one of my mother's favorites so I saw the Orson Welles' version as a youngster - an excellent version as well! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. I read Jane Eyre when I was in late high school and for some reason it rocked me so hard, haunted me so badly, that I can't even look at the book or think about it at all without wanting to run away and hide and cry somewhere.
ReplyDeleteEver had a book do that to you?
Hi Vicky
ReplyDeleteI love this photograph, I am just curious, did you capture it during the film.? I am intrigued because am always wondering when, on my blog, I can afford not to mention source.. please enlighten me ! ;-)
Can't wait to see this one. Thanks xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

I don't know why I wasn't expecting much going into this movie, but I absolutely loved it. (I was also delighted to see Grace Coddington watching in the audience!)
ReplyDeleteoh how I would love an 'alone' weekend .. I would curl up with a stack of visual feast movies ...
ReplyDeletethanks for the sweet comment on parisienne farmgirl!
I also thought the film lovely - but I do note - that the actresses who play Jane are really never plain...
ReplyDeleteI adored this film,
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely topped my flick list since it debuted.
Full disclosure, I now own the dvd and have rewatched it more times than I care to confess ;)
Cheers, Alcira

Just put this in my queue! Can't wait to watch.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Miss Wasikowska a wonderful presence on screen. I look forward to her future work. I must say though, Ciaran Hinds remains my favourite Mr. Rochester... at least on screen that is. The one I see in my head when I read the book will always be the best!
ReplyDeleteI loved this film version so much! I wanted to see it twice but have been busy with my copyedit so missed it. The landscape really reminded me of my home state of Tasmania as well. It made me want to read Jane Eyre again. It's one of my favourite books. And I think Jane is such a wonderful role model for today's young girls. She's so plucky and determined and doesn't rely upon her appearance to make her mark. A beautiful film. xx
