Cate emailed me some months ago to introduce me to her designs...like all girls I love a jewel and the mere mention of that 5 letter word saw me clicking on her site pronto. Her Moonshined Designs are gorgeous and her philosophy on jewellery making resonated with me....Cate says,
"Each piece is made by hand, using old-world European techniques and attention to detail, plus only the finest materials available - as I don't believe in wasting time or effort on half-measures that won't stick around. I am designing things to last, not trendy or cheap pieces, but design to be passed down, and cherished"
Moonshined pieces are stunning, there are many that I covet like this, this and this and that my girls would adore, but more than that I was enchanted by Cate's dream of creating her jewellery, of expanding and finding buyers in Europe and ultimately being able to relocate to Paris...Cate and I continued chatting and recently she emailed me with exciting news...her dream was coming true and she was moving to Paris. I, lover-of-a-dream-come-true story immediately wanted to know more....
" It's a dream come true for me. I haven't really spoken about this much before, but the very first time I visited France when I was a very young girl, I said to myself, "One day I'm going to live here." and now, I finally am. There have been so many times it didn't seem life was going to let that happen... but I realized it's the promises we make ourselves that are sometimes the most important, so I never forgot and this was in the back of my mind. Every time I was in Europe for business (my prior career was International Film Marketing), I managed to sneak through France somehow, for even just a couple days.. Paris or the South, wherever... just could never get enough of the lifestyle, working to improve my language skills, and the tremendous beauty. I believe for visual people, there is no place better on earth than France.
When I launched my line, my secret hope was that somehow, against all odds, I would end up moving to Paris to design. A month after I launched, the line started getting attention in Europe... I was invited to shows over there as the only non-European... in a dream state, it seemed!... then did Paris Fashion Week in January, and that's when it really cemented. I had no idea if they would like my designs or not, but was shocked, thrilled and delighted beyond belief that buyers in France were interested in importing my line, only it costs so much to import from the states... it makes more sense to import ME! And of course, there is no greater compliment on earth than to have one's designs appreciated by the French, who are of course, world leaders in all things beautiful and charming. France seduced me a long time ago, and it's only now that I'm making it official. When I pick up my visa in a couple weeks that allows me French residency, it will be one of the happiest days of my life, and a long-time dream come true. My designs are all inspired by travel, moments, and memories... and being in paris full time surrounded by so much beauty and history and culture, while being centrally located to so many other wonderful countries to visit, will provide boundless inspiration, creativity and love essential to good and consistent design. "
Cate has very generously offered me a pair of her beautiful sterling silver etoile earrings(they were part of the red carpet celebrity gifting for the Emmys in Hollywood) to give to my readers...and I promise I will give them away...as much as I would be tempted to keep them....they are for you. It seemed timely and just the right thing to celebrate Cate's move to Paris (I love nothing more than a story that involves jewels, France and dreams coming true) and the success of her Moonshined Designs with my 3 year blog-iversary...Three years has come and gone since I wrote my first post on French Essence and in many ways it feels like three minutes. I can't thank all of you enough for the brilliant comments and wonderful emails...Your wit, your savvy, your inspiration.. it is your energy and your interactions that have given this blog it's reason for being...
Please leave me a comment so I know you know, subscribe or follow French Essence if you would like to be in the drawing for these very pretty etoile earrings...if you are already a follower or a subscriber....then you need do nothing more, you will automatically be entered...I will announce the winner next week...Visit Cate's Moonshined Designs or link to her Facebook page to mention these divine baubles...

Hello Vicki
ReplyDeleteI would like to say:
I am relatively new to my own blogging.
I have admired your blog from afar and not commented until I started my own blog.
I take my hat off to you and congratulate you.
3 years is a long time of blogging - but to do it so well and not miss a beat for the reader - to entertain the reader and entice to come back - well that takes real talent!
Happy "birth/blog-day" have a little french bubbles to celebrate :)
and eat like a french woman and exercise like an australian woman. (I read that from someone I admire :)
take care and I hope I can now lead my own example like you continue to lead yours.

Good Morning Vicki
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on dreams and keeping a positive attitude.
I am delighted for Cate and wish her success beyond her wildest dreams.
I adore your blog and wishing you many more years of success.
Love Helenxx
Good morning Vicki!
ReplyDeleteLovely post; I think we are all attracted to the lIGHT and the magic it brings us. I surely evokes dreams of wonder in me, and this is a lovely post. THANK YOU!!! Anita
What pretty celestial earrings..I have to say if I am blessed to win these I will share them with my Goddaughter, Aurora, who is named after the Aurora Borealis :-)Merci Beau Coup
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant story...but so true-keep your dreams/wishes and eventually they do happen!
ReplyDeleteMine was to study Art when I had to drop it at the age of thireteen to study more academic subjects. Now, after ten years part-time study AS level. Foundation diploma and now a BA) I have just graduated with a first :-)
Very best of luck to Moonshined designs....oh and by the way stars have been my symbol throughout some tough times trying to attain my dream..........
I would love to win Cate's star earrings because they would be so full of meaning for me - a dream come true shall we say? My life at the moment is entwined in a dream to survive and have "something even better." Some time ago, I started a direct sales opportunity and it turns out that I am a "STAR" director with this company. All is fitting because in this awful economy I was forced to redesign my life - having lost my job 18 months ago. Now, without insurance and steady income, I am trying to put a foundation under my dreams of a more enriching daily life with a wonderful company (with a French connection) - so that I will have "something even better."
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story! The earrings are indeed beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiring story that dreams do come true - fabulous! thank you Vicky! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post and I'm wishing really hard for those gorgeous earrings!! On another note, be careful what you wish for, because wishes can come true, and as Truman Capote said, 'there are more tears shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones'. Sometimes its good just to have the dream....
ReplyDeleteI have just subscribed! Oh, her story resonates with me and if I were younger I would definitely investigate moving to France. I have been to Paris only once and I cannot wait to go again. I am of French Canadian descent so there may be something that is innate that is being called home :-) Not that I expect to win such a great giveaway (my score so far is 0 out of ~150), but how appropriate if I were to be so lucky - my maiden name is L'etoile !! Thanks for sharing Cate's wonderful dream come true!

Happy 3rd Blogiversary! I look forward to your daily post and your daily click, as well. I love the star earrings! Maybe I'll be the lucky winner!
ReplyDeleteBon chance chère Cate! What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it Vicki!

Vicki,
ReplyDeleteI love your post today and indeed it is so important to dream. I dreamed too that one day I would live as a Parisian - for me it was two weeks but I still feel as though I fulfilled that small dream...I have many and I am still following them...lovely x
What a sweet give away. And congrats on your 3 year anaversary!!!
ReplyDeleteXxx callie
When I found your blog I knew I had discovered a kindred spirit. So moved by your story about Cate and her jewelry and move to Paris I had to share this little anecdote. For my entire life, even as a child, I studied French style. Clothing, cooking, decor etc. were all in my sights. A few years ago, as a Christmas gift, my husband took me to France. April in Paris, enough said! To this day I recall with absolute clarity the moment we entered Paris, at night, with the lights on in the Eiffel Tower, the tears rolled down my face...I didn't even realize. The people with us thought I was a wacko. They had no idea! So, dreaming, hoping, planning, and working for this goal makes absolute perfect sense to me. And by the way, the earrings and Cate's other pieces are simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteVicki, we agree with you. A person's dreams and desires of their heart are what keep them motivated and creative. Not to have a dream and working towards that dream would be so sad.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 3 years!
Angela and Renee
I can't believe it's been three years since you started the blog. Thanks for all the inspiration and loveliness -- this story is the perfect way to mark your "blog-iversary" -- so lovely to read a story about dreams coming true. A perfect reminder for a Monday morning.
ReplyDeleteHello Vicki, great post. To stop dreaming is to stop. Living for me. Congrats on your three year anniversary and a thanks for all the dreams you have shared with us along the way.
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely for Cate to have her wish come true. The more one writes the miracles down the more they materialize. Vicki you are such a wordsmith + happy 3rd year. I am truly blessed to be following you. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteYou have such a wonderfully blessed outlook! Congratulations on three years of blogging. That is just so awesome! This is such a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 3 year anniversay! If I am blessed to win such a lovely giveaway I will be sure to share with my Goddaughter who is named after the Aurora Borealis! Merci Beaucoup!
ReplyDeleteThose earrings are so beautiful! I really connected with her story. It is my dream to move to France someday as well. Luckily, I am young enough now to have time to do so--the question is just when and how....
ReplyDeleteLovely and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful gift.
I'm tickled to enter!
Congratulations on your 3rd Anniversary! The earrings and other jewelry items on the site you wrote about are really beautiful! Thank you for holding the give-away contest! Have a great day!~Leena~
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your blog! And for sharing with us the Moonshiner's dream. It's a beautiful story. Maybe those stars will make me as lucky as she is! I love France too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, wonderful story! Thank you for sharing Cate's dream come true. It gives me hope as I wish and wish and work and wait for my own dream of moving to Paris comes true!
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your blog anniversary. It's really a gift to me, a slice of beautiful to my day. Thank you.
Her jewelry is stunning and so simple (right up my alley as I'm not into big, gaudy jewelry) and I would love to wear those star earrings. I actually have a star tattoo on the back of my neck, because I believe in the same philosophy -- that dreams can come true -- and I don't think it's wishy washy at all! :) xx
ReplyDeleteJe suis une grande rêveuse et j'approuve les tiens...
ReplyDeleteJe lève mon verre à l'occasion de votre 3ème anniversaire... Champagne please!

Love hearing stories about dreams coming true. I have had my heart set moving into a building where I can live above my studio. My house has been on the market for almost 2 yrs. so once in awhile my resolve weakens. Thanks for the encouragement. I follow you religiously. Love your posts.

I love when dreams come true . Her jewellry is very elegant . Less is more
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet post. Yes, I'd agree that moving to Paris, even for a few weeks, would be a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteMandy
All of life first comes from dreams. Walt Disney built one of the world's largest corporations based on, 'When You Wish Upon a Star.' Einstein--Time's Man of the 20th Century said-'There are two ways of being....believing that everything is a miracle, or that nothing is.' And of course physics proves that the entire universe is made from electromagnetics--the stuff of stars.
ReplyDeleteTerrific post!! Had me smiling and DREAMING...
Vicki ~ congratulations on three magnificent years of incredible blog posts! truly, you offer inspiration with every word you share. it's no secret, i'm a huge fan of yours and will remain a loyal reader for as long as you decide to write your beautiful words here {or anywhere for that matter}.
ReplyDeleteloved this follow-your-dreams-story-come-true! there is nothing more rewarding than achieving your dream destiny.

I have been a follower for ages but seeing those lovely ear rings and reading your story about dreams coming true resonated, I feel as if I am coming out of the end of a tunnel, one I didnt think I would come out of, and stars were there, at the end. I now dare to dream again, perhaps that last visit to Paris next year, when a few weeks ago, all seemed over, We need our dreams and hopes or all is lost.
ReplyDeleteThank you .

Vicki...I am a Californian who has fallen in love with Paris, the different regions of France and your beautiful photographs, inspirational story of expat life in St Remy and great stories of Mr. FF and the now grown up children. You are living much of my dream in France while I have lived it out as a bicoastal in the US. If I could have used the internet to express the surprises, challenges and joys of moving across America over 40 years, I would have been "on it". Believe it or not, I used the post office to communicate with friends and family because "long distance calls" were thought to be expensive in the 60s! My Mr. FF and kids surrounded me with inspiration. So did the beauty and soul of the communities we enjoyed as much as you do St Remy, with side trips to all those Paris, Corsica and Italy sites. Your writing and photography has inspired me to keep journaling with photos and notes recording my 'seventy-somethings' years with fresh eyes. I never travel without WiFi and I read you almost every morning wherever I am: Mill Valley, California, San Francisco, Paris, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and hopefully next year Southeast Asia... Thanks so much and Congratulations on 3 years of keeping me curious and enchanted ! Just got back from 2 perfect weeks living in an apartment on the Canal St Martin..Saw "Midnight In Paris' at the Odeon. Bliss!!! Keep following your dreams!
ReplyDeleteHaving dreams, believing them passionately, seeing them come to pass in your mind and taking baby steps every day towards them in whatever ways we can. All these things I believe in, Vicki. I'm over the moon for Cate. And her work is gorgeous. Her Superpowers in the descriptions are a lovely part of the whole package. Thank you for introducing me to Cate and her work.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Vicki - I have long been a fan of your writing and image choices. I enjoy the tastes of gorgeousness you show here and these jewels are stunning. Without our dreams we are nothing.
ReplyDeleteOf couse all dreams come true and if they dont you need to wish alot harder xx
ReplyDeleteI am a regular follower. I also love a "dream come true" story. Please enter me for a chance to win! Thanks!

What a sweet story! Living in Paris has always been my dream as well and through the grace of God that's what i'm doing! Bravo et bon courage!
ReplyDeleteLoving this post, Vicki. Congratulations on your three years, writing a blog is so much more than we thought when we started, isn't it? Inspirational, fulfilling, a way to connect with friends from all over the world.
ReplyDeleteDreams that come true, and the desire to fill our lives with beauty and laughter, who could wish for more?
Thank you for introducing us to Cate, her work is indeed lovely and gorgeous! Wishing you a happy sun drenched week in your France.xoxo Lidy
It's great you're celebrating and highlighting other dream makers. We can all be inspired by these determined people.
ReplyDeleteDear Vicki,
ReplyDeleteJust like you I also live in France. Not that far away either. Toghether with my family I live in beautifull Aix en Provence.
Unlike Cate, for me it was the other way around. It was work that brought me and my husband to France.
So after time passed we fell in love with it more and more! And still everyday if we take a promenade through Aix we feel very fortunate to be here.
I never dreamed of living in France, but somehow unexpected it is a dream come true!
I am very happy for Cate that her wish finally came true.
And for Cate: Bienvenue en France!
X Chantal
I enjoy your writing so much. Pretty photo and pretty earrings, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary,
Deborah
Vicki, I always love your posts and this one is just beautiful--dreams are the most important thing and of course, you struck near my heart because I am such a believer in designing and creating quality pieces meant to last a lifetime and be handed down. Congratulations on three years of blogging! It has been such a pleasure to get to know a bit of your life via your blog.

What a beautiful story and a wonderful heartfelt celebration of your friend's success and happiness. That would be the most incredible thing to happen. Maybe I should start dreaming a little harder about the possibility of moving to Europe. Yes, I agree with a comment your friend made "for those who truly love beauty there is not other place like France". Yes.
ReplyDeleteVicy,

ReplyDeleteNot terribly French, but Happy Birthday/Anniversary, maaate!
I just checked out Moonshined Designs and I particularly love the Skull and Bones bracelet and the Gun earrings! In face I love most of her designs. I don't often wear jewellery but I would definately wear Cate's designs. Something about the Simplicity. The Narrative that accompanies it. Very Cool. Just like You.
Cheers :)
You have provided me so much inspiration over the last two years since I found your blog. My 80 year old mother now is also a subscriber and we are planning to go to St. Remy in Sept of this year. Doesn't get much better than that. Dreams do come true indeed. And maybe I will be wearing new earrings on the trip :)
