Shoe String Chic, by Paris based Australian Kerrie Hess, is all about finding style for less. Her Parisian themed illustrations are a delight, and her fashion and style tips excellent....Kerrie's astute and witty commentary reflects her keen observations on French women...

    Oh I thought the illustrations looked familiar...I'm a fan of her sister Meagan Hess. I bought the book 'Meals in Heels' just because of her illustrations. Looks like this one will be next!

    The exerpt provided here describes exactly what I strive to learn-hence the name of my blog. The discipline of becoming selective is the theme of my life and my blog (although my blog's content may drift from time to time).
    I will be purchasing this book. How could I not?

    oh yes, I agree completely with Kerrie Hess...bigger closets do not make for a better wardrobe...by pairing down ones attire to just the best items, you can't help but dress better thereby look better...smaller closets are chic..

    Great sketches! Will have to check this one out. I've noticed a lot of the French women buy inexpensively at the outdoor markets in Paris. A great way to stay 'in fashion' for not much cash when the fashion changes so quickly. I frequently buy there as well, only problem is you can't try anything on.

    I cannot wait to read this book, it looks great. The lesson is true, the French that I have meet over 25 years do not wate money, the value quality over quantity. It seems that we can learn from that.

    I am so glad you suggested this Vicki...something new for me to search out. I love that feeling! I was in a bookstore in the USA yesterday and was surprised by how many new books are on the market with peoples experience living in France. I have to say...in all honesty, that none of them compare to the style and sophistication of yours...my pocketbook was thankful too!

    I am sitting in the airport en route to London...two more weeks before we hit the Loire Valley. I am very keen! FYI...that move I told you about to a land far far away is no longer, we are Europe bound for a few more years. Very relieved! :)

    Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. What a lovely book this is—the illustrations are beautiful... and the tips? Certainly true. I was taught to be selective by my French mother who only wears things she loves. Her style is quite her own, and she will mix a Prada blazer with a tee and then wear a man's skinny tie, and look fabulous! I have always admired her bravery. Thank you for sharing about this book—sounds fantastic!

    This looks like such a fun read! I'm getting together a book order in the next few days (I'm woefully out of things to read and it makes me panic!) and I'll check it out.

    I love the snippet you featured about the small closets = small, chic, carefully thought-out wardrobes. I went through a major closet purge last fall and am down to things I actually wear that actually look good on me and are still actually in style. (But I did keep too many pairs of shoes for sentimental reasons..."Oh, I wore these when I played the harp for Mikhail Gorbachev!" and "Oh, I wore these the 2nd time I was in Paris!" - you know...)
