Paris and cafés are two almost interchangeable five letter words; where would one be without the other. If I think about what distinguishes Paris from many other major cities it would be the sidewalk cafés. It is just not the same in London or New York, Sydney or Tokyo - try as they do, Paris has the café down to an art. Parisian cafés are like the harbour is to Sydney, the neon signs are to Tokyo, the honking horns are to New York and the red buses are to London, they define the city.
There is a new app for iphone and ipad called PARIS CAFÉS that not only lists many fabulous cafés in Paris but it describes them, gives directions and contact details plus links into GPS so the app will walk you there if needs be. I have been playing with this app for weeks now and learning just how many cafés there are in Paris that I don't know..... I need to rectify this asap....Finding the perfect Parisian café for an aperitif could not be easier....xv

What a fantastic App Vicki. I must install it on my phone....oh, isn't modern technology wonderful ? I have installed the Wimbledon App, and can't get over the fact that I can watch videos of matches etc. I still find it all so amazing !!
ReplyDelete.....oh, sorry, I digress......there is nothing like sitting outside a cafe in Paris. You are so right that there is nowhere in the world that do it quite like the Parisians.
London has it's own wondeerful attractions but, Paris is the Queen when it comes to cafe culture. XXXX
Thanks for the information about the apps available for Paris Cafes. Wish we had known about them when we were there in April. But speaking of apps my husband did have a translation app that came in handy for us. I blogged about it recently concerning a St Rémy restaurant.
ReplyDeleteoh how i wish i could REALLY use the app!!!

ReplyDeleteYou are right! I've been to New York and London and nothing compares to the cafes in Paris! My husband and I always talk about how one of our favorite memories of our vacation in Paris was sitting at a tiny cafe waiting for the Louvre to open. Oh, how I want to go back!

I'm stuck with drive-through coffee and muffin places here on the Minnesota prairie...A nice Parisian cafe experience for an afternon would be HEAVEN.

ReplyDeleteAlthough, I don't think I'll be visiting Paris anytime soon, I still think I need this app. So I can study up should an unexpected trip arise! Thanks for keeping us all in the know. xoxo Trina
ReplyDeleteThat is INCREDIBLE!! Another reason to get back to Paris!! Wow what apps don't or won't they have?? Its incredible, and this one app makes me want to take a year out of life and explore all the different Parisian cafes there are to see!! Wouldn't that be fun? We went to Bistro Lipp which I know is quite famous and I would imagine is on that list and it truly captured the essence of the famous Parisian cafe..I just loved every minute of being there!!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. I am a writer living in the 5th and am constantly looking for new cafés. I have found most of the ones I like online, but it's not always easy! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great travel companion, a cafe stop on each block sounds like the perfect way to walk Paris. XO
ReplyDeleteSo very true. When someone say Paris, the first 2 things that come to mind are the Eiffel Tower and the cafes. Now I wish I had an i-phone!
ReplyDeleteEvery city tries to capture the Parisian cafe spirit but, alas, they are not Paris. Love...
ReplyDeleteI'm there Sister!!!!!!!!Buying it now!!! Thanks!!!!Maryanne xo

keep up the great writing !!
They have made an app for everything! This one would be very useful when you were in an unfamiliar part of town. Maybe you should challenge yourself to visit every cafe listed... should only take a couple of years or so!!

Oh Wow! I am currently in Paris and am definitely going to download that app. With such an incredible selection available we walk continually from cafe to cafe in an attempt to pick the right one...mind you is there such a thing here in Paris as a bad cafe???
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki--I love your "daily clicks"--those red (and hot pink) umbrellas are wonderful --and in tune with my mood since I just painted most of my shop bright pink/coral--it's bright and happy!! Have a wonderful week-end. Mary
ReplyDeleteI just love that sign. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea!! Thank you for the handy tip, Vicki. Enjoy expanding your Paris cafe experience, hopefully in the near future. Happy weekend to you...
ReplyDeleteI love the Parisian cafes where one row of tables is squinched in on the sidewalk and tablemates sit side by side facing the street. So charming!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a Parisian sidewalk cafe - the little round tables, the weatherproof chairs, umbrellas, well-behaved doggies sitting quietly, and of course the perfect cafe to sip while people watching. I'll get that app for when I come back.....hopefully soon!
ReplyDeleteHello Vicki Glad you liked the parsnip risotto recipe, I'm working on an upside down caramelised pear and parsnip cake for my next blog. x bee
