finding treasure...

This two-seater 'love seat' was broken, rust covered and abandoned when I found her in a local brocante. I scooped her up and found someone to do a little welding, a lot of sanding and a few coats of 'greige' paint. The vintage linen cloth that I had saved for 'just the right thing' was measured, cut and sewn...and here she is, sitting in the garden as good as new.

She's a favourite now...sometimes it is the abandoned that become our best loved treasures.

Happy, happy, weekend.....xv

  2. You have brought it to it's former glory Vicki...love it! I found a little iron seat in the brush behind a shed in our yard. It is quirky and fun. The seat fits a pot of flowers. A bit kitsch..but I have a feeling it will make it's way around the world with me ;) I have been deciding what colour to paint it...you have just provided new life for my little quirky potted seat...'greige'.
    Many thanks xxx

  9. That is a treasure and how lovingly you have restored it. I love your saying "the abandoned become our best loved treasures". I believe the same can be said of people. In praise of abandoned objects and people.

  19. That is gorgeous! It also inspired me. I bought a pair of rusty old park bench legs at our flea market last summer, but have yet to tacke restoring them...I'm wondering if you did the painting and sanding yourself or if you went with a professional to get a good finish? Would love to hear!

  24. What an adorable loveseat. My aunt painted old wicker pieces and made bright colored flower cushions for them. It is amazing what a little paint and cloth will do! Transformation! Love it!

  25. It's true! I found a pair of nightstands abandoned on the curb in my neighborhood many years ago. I cleaned them, polished them up and took them upstairs to the bedroom where they fit EXACTLY on either side of my bed in my very narrow bedroom. Score! I love them. Their curve and color match my vintage handpainted headboard and footboard perfectly.
