There was something about all those roses last week that made me think about pearls...I can't quite fathom the connection, perhaps soft and feminine are the similarities, but that's the beauty of random thoughts...the bouncing around between ideas, the following of haphazard thoughts and the chasing of the non-planned.
Pearls, those luminous wonders of nature, seem to me to be perfect for any occasion. Like most jewels, bigger and flawless is best, but it is the irregular and smaller baubles that I think are so pretty. Long strands, short strands, multiple strands, Chanel style, freshwater or cultured - as many or as few as you like, pearls work like that. Pearls are never in or out of fashion and pearls make their own rules. I like wearing them every which way - winding them around my wrist as a bracelet or clipping a couple of long strands together with a vintage paste brooch.
I have loved pearls, all pearls, for as long as I can remember....xv

I adore them too and I think the quality they share with roses is that they are natural and delicate but strong too. I am particularly fond of the black ones myself- and wearing black and white ones together, though of course they are more of a dark grey, but I think it looks great.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you and they go with everything. I once found a pearl in an oyster shell from an oyster I was eating in New Orleans,I wrapped it in an old tissue in my pocket. A few days later in my hotel, I wondered why I had kept this old tissue and threw it away forgetting about the pearl! There's a moral there somewhere!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki,
ReplyDeletePearls have never featured much in my life for no apparant reason. They have such a creamy, luminescence and are so pretty. They make me think of the '20's and '30's, Bette Davies and, my Mum. I must get myself a string !!
I love your photograph. It makes me want to put my hands into that lovely little bowl and try a string on !! XXXX
Fantastic shot Vicki...a great daily click.
ReplyDeleteI am with you...pearls bring joy!

We can see the relation between the two. Love pearls of all kinds. You are absolutely right...they go so well with everything. Have a beautiful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteYou said the magic word, Vicki! Pearls are my favorite. I have been known to sleep in them.
ReplyDeleteHope that all is well with you.

Being from the south, (not France,le sigh) we love pearls too. In college the "wear pearls with EVERYTHING" fad took over for about a year. I think we looked silly doing that but I guess we could have found more ridiculous things to wear. Wait.....we did.....overalls !!!

I'd take pearls over diamonds any old day. My honey surprised me with a beauty when we were in Bora Bora. The most romantic thing he had ever done--I think he surprised himself!
ReplyDeleteMy pearl just gets more beautiful with time...
I love pearls! Have a lovely string that belonged to a great Aunt.
ReplyDeleteSomething special about pearls with a history.
I'm looking at a coffee table with pearls left from a night out, last weekend.

The same grandma who had the rose-patterned china I mentioned in yesterday's comment gave me a strand of pearls that belonged to her mother. They were faux pearls, but I loved them. They were stolen when my house was broken into a couple of years ago, and I miss them. Greatly.
ReplyDeletelove these beauties... a wonderful woman in nantucket makes the most beautiful jewelry with these amazing works of the sea...
ReplyDeletei will always treasure mine as you do yours. xoxo
i can definitely see how your brain would combine the two.
ReplyDeletethey are 2 peas in a pod.
....i think so
xx
Perhaps the connection is that most women would love to receive roses, pearls and diamonds. I know I would! Pearls are just so classy!!
ReplyDeleteBeauteous. WT just brought me back loads of lovely pearls from India. Pearls and spring go hand in hand, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI adore pearls, they are timeles, beutiful and feminine. I can´t help but think about Coco Chanel, who was master in mixing real and costume jewelry, and who loved pearls as much as I love them...
ReplyDeleteBeutiful post, Vicki!

I remember slipping on my first set of pearls. They were my nanas I was 7 and felt so grown up. I always thought - one day I will wear these.
ReplyDeleteStill love them and always will. I can definitely see the connection - gorgeous. x Suzi
Ahhhhh, beautiful! I feel the same way, thanks for the joy and TFS.
ReplyDeleteI have the pearls my mother received from her father when she turned 18 years. There's something alluring and special about them. Have a lovely day. Emma.
ReplyDeleteI wear mine daily...my favorite piece of jewelry.
ReplyDeleteMy father gave me my first pearls and I still have them. Pearls are always elegant and always in style. Thanks for the reminder to wear them more often and not save them for special occasions.

I have finally finished my 60 hour closet purge (not including trips to dump and donations which actually makes it about 100 hrs.!. But I did find more than a few lovely strands of real pearls (some very special gifts), all colours, sizes,l and lengths when I then organized my vast collection of costume jewelry. I put each necklace in its own labeled box (and then displayed a few lovelies) but all the pearl strands went together as the best way for me to wear pearls is in multiple strands.............sort of a bring-them-on effect.
ReplyDeleteOf course, nidway through the evening I am starting to reduce their quantity but nevertheless I start out with all the best intentions. Hope all is well with your world Vicki and hope we can chat soon. Much love. XO
I have been thinking of you alot lately as I enjoy my roses and make my little bouquets ~ and today after reading about your love for pearls I took mine out and wore them about the house, by myself, and enjoyed them ~ simple pleasures that bring so much joy! Thank you for reminding me :)
ReplyDeleteNathalie
Oh,yes. Pearls. I wear them often. Even with a Tee-shirt, they still look great!
ReplyDeleteOh My! First Roses and now pearls. Delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new viewer, just came over from DustyLu's. I saw your post about pearls and had to comment. I've always loved them too. Even back when they were made out of pop beads. I have a booth at an antique mall with vintage petticoats, wedding accessories, and tons of pearls. Fake and real. they make a beautiful feminine statement. Your blog is beautiful, and I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leslie
Hi, I'm back. Check out my blog for April 2011. You can see the pearls on the dress forms. Thanks again,
ReplyDeleteLeslie
What a beautiful picture, I love pearls even as a decor piece inside a gorgeous trinket box, just like the one you have, I have kept my grandmothers pearls and my very first strand, they are so special xx
ReplyDeleteI, too, love wearing them every which way. Even my five year old is in love with their luminescence and has demanded some of her own.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I just get frustrated when people say they are OUT OF DATE. Can you imagine. I tell them they are out of date.
ReplyDeleteyvonne
Pearls are just so classy, beautiful, feminine and just simply perfect.

Beautiful subject and I, too, love pearls. One beautiful image comes to mind, about 20 yrs ago when one of my clients went into assisted living. She had little means, a holocaust survivor, who was now widowed. Her little room was tiny, surrounded by only her most treasured pieces of furniture. The piece du resistance was - a silver samovar placed on a dresser and draped around the samovar were pearl necklaces of varying sizes. She had a dimly lit room and candlelight. I shall never forget the ambiance of this little room.
