Plenty of rain earlier this year has meant that not only have the roses been abundant and prettier than ever, but also the other parts of the garden.
The most important element for a garden planted from scratch, apart from constant care and attention, is time. Time is the garden's best friend. This year our garden feels as if she has come of age and she feels settled, confident even. She is happy where she is and with who she is. She has learned some tough lessons about snow and frost... even the wild boar have come down from the mountains to torment and pester her, but she has prospered despite these challenges. She is certainly not all grown up but I recognise the signs of maturity. She is very bien dans sa peau...l she is French....xv

Vicki,
ReplyDeleteYOu have truly created something beautiful - a treasure to look at. x
Oh your garden is divine! I have a passion for topiary and petite hedges (I think it's the control freak in me)!!! I particularly love the leaf of your tall hedges, the leaf is a fabulous contrast to the buxus, what is it? I'm sure I'm wrong but it looks to be bamboo??!!! Fabulous post! Warmest wishes - Glenda
ReplyDeleteSuch a fine and elegant lady your garden is becoming...and besides her "pretty face" I detect a rare soulfulness even at her tender age. Beautiful.

Looks idyllic; just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful garden! Even with a formal sculpture it has a very Earthy inviting welcome...please, come...sit and enjoy me.
ReplyDeleteFlowers come and go and stage riots in the borders, but when all is said and done, I love a garden with "good bones"...a well laid structure. Yang to the floral yin. Love the lines and curves of your garden! Beautiful. Trish

ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous gardnen. Enjoy your weekend, Vicki! xxoo :)
ReplyDeleteOh, isn't a garden at maturity a wonder thing? My own garden is 12 years old this year. Everything is sturdy and established. It's also a colossal MESS! I've been so busy traveling and playing my harp and writing for the past two years that the garden has been entirely neglected. My nice lawn helper guy is coming over next week with all his tools and his positive attitude and his bad jokes and is going to tackle the damage with me. We. Will. Prevail. Over. The. Garden! I'll post before and after photos on my blog next week.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was so thrilled with your roses but this goes beyond. I can only imagine how peaceful it must be--and your bench has fit right in!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.

Vicki... she is a beautiful garden. The kind you could get lost in. Sitting, writing, reading and just listening to the sounds of nature. Le sigh. Time in a garden like that would do a soul good! Happy weekend!

Hi Vicki, i love your blog and i especially love your books; i have every one. I am coming to France in late Sept; have you got any recommendations for a tassie girl that loves antiques, interiors, shopping and gardening. Oh and my better half is a water boy; boats and anywhere by the sea. Take care Amanda x
ReplyDeleteIt seems the cold weather has affected my roses, or something has. If not boar then maybe possums and magpies?
ReplyDeleteLove the look of a mature garden. We are always so impatient and want the look now. Beautiful garden! Hope you and your family have a lovely weekend!
