To be a ballerina...

is unlikely.... but my dream can live on in the slipper. Little girls adore everything to do with ballet - the leotards, the tutus and always the ballet slipper....this big girl still does.

When the heels get too high and the feet too tired, the ballet slipper is my shoe of choice.

The Chanel pump - the Rolls Royce of the ballet slipper.

Repetto - the original dancer's shoe and my personal favourites.

French Sole , with the biggest selection of sizes, shapes, colours and easy online ordering. 'Harriet' and 'Henrietta' are some of the cutest.

Pretty Ballerinas - the name says it all.

It is the weekend; it must be time to leap, twirl and pirouette....Have fun dancing, xv.

  8. As usual what a great post. Love the pictures, ballerina slippers not much to not like about them, I have an extra bedroom in my house I decorated for my granddaughters that revolves totally around vintage Ballerina items mostly slippers and toe shoes. Thank you for another wonderful post...

  10. Sniffle, sniffle, sob, sob Vicki - these are too gorgeous especially the Chanel beauties. However I decided long ago that my legs are too short & stubby to carry these off with any aplomb, even under a pair of jeans. I'll just have to love them with my eyes only.

  13. I was laughing while I read this, remembering the ordeal I went through. In order to secure her daughters good posture, my mother enrolled us in numerous ballet classes from early childhood and well into our teens. On top of that, she had us walk in heels while carrying heavy books atop our heads, for 30 minutes every day. How we hated it then, but it definitely paid off. Thanks for the lovely post! Have a wonderful weekend!

  20. VICKI-

Yes, lovely post. If you can't be a ballerina, you can at least wear ballerina-inspired footwear.

Just came home from the Napa Valley--wearing the taupe-colored Chanel Ballerine with black toe cap. Also recently wore in Paris the black Chanel Ballerine with black patent toe cap. So chic.
I also love the French Sole designs--which are very fresh and in witty colors and styles.
On my next visit, I will go to Repetto on rue de la Paix to check our their dance-inspired shoes.
    Happy days in Provence! www.thestylesaloniste.com

  24. How gorgeous are those shoes, I love all of them, they never date. I recently saw the Paris Opera Ballet in Brisbane & one ballerina wore a bright red tu-tu with purple tuile - exquisite! enjoyed going through your posts..J

  28. Oh they are all so pretty Vicki. I love them all. I dreamt of a ballerina life but was too short and 'healthy sized' to be one. I became a music nerd instead, picture, school hat with elastic under the chin (high school!!! oh mother you were so cruel) and a violin tucked under my arm! A-M xx

  29. I love all of them! My daughter loves her 'ballet' She is only four and so it is still very basic but her teacher (Miss Anne) is as exquisite as you would imagine. Her posture is so fantastic and her figure so toned and perfect. I think it is so good for the little ones to learn discipline and to enjoy their tutus. I also love to go to the ballet to be enthralled by the costumes. It is always fascinating to me that such hard work is made to look like a fairy-tale. Thank you for your lovely comment, Vicki. Enjoy your weekend. xx

  30. I still tell my friends that when I grow up I want to be a ballerina! A dancer's style- both on stage and off has always been my favorite silhouette to copy.

I live in ballet flats...I always feel as if I'm standing up just a bit straighter the minute I slip them on. Keep dancing, Vicki!xoxo

I will now try that shoe again, I have a problem with them slipping up in the back so I always look for a strap across...

  37. I remember getting my very first pair of ballet slippers for class when I was 4. I laid them on my night stand and stared at them as I fell asleep. I still love wearing ballet flats and I am sure I always will! Have a beautiful weekend, Vicki.

  41. Not shoes I've ever tried. Never liked the idea of the lack of support. Every woman at work wears them, so I feel vaguely unfashionable. These do look lovely and would present a whole new shopping opportunity. Hurrah.

  42. I love the ballet, my little (though not so little now) used to be in ballet...she went up to the toes shoe then realized she needed another sport! darn....I loved to see her dance! Good weekend to you!

  43. Oh! So cute Vicki! I love the French Sole shoes. I'm always on the lookout for a cute ballerina flat. It's always when you are looking in the stores that you can't find them! We have a store here called DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) that gets some pretty great shoes at pretty good prices! I'll have to go over and see if they have these! Hope all is well in France!

  44. Your ballerina shoes made me instantly think of Audrey Hepburn. How I would love to have a pair of those Chanels.

At one time in my career I had some Farragamo shoes that looks very much like the original Chanel version you show here. I would love to have those shoes back along with the little Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress I wore with them. There must be a lesson here - don't throw anything away.

So glad you left a comment so I had a trail to follow!

These are all so lovely. I used to be a ballerina, and kick myself for not continuing those lessons. I do however, buy ballet slippers to fill the void :)

    Have a lovely weekend! xx

  47. I was a bit of a ballerina back in the day. I remember how comfy the authenitic black ballet slippers were. I think I should get a pair for shopping. But, if I could have any slippers I would love to dance through life in a pair of Chanel's. Fab post!

  50. Oh the ballerina photo is so beautiful. Like all the Degas ballerinas...swans in some and those wonderfully awkward poses too.
I am crazy about the Chanel pumps, just too lovely. Since Carla Bruni made flat shoes fashionable - and I cant wear the stillettos - I have a nice collection of the Chanel flats. Me and Imelda Marcos...
