Have you seen Hugo?Anything that is about Paris gets me in... even a 'children's' movie... Normally I steer clear of the 3D or the animated or the holiday movie madness... but Hugo is different... very different...
Directed by Martin Scorsese, it is a story about the wonders of cinema and I think it is one of my most favourite movies in a long time. If you haven't seen it... you must... you will be mesmerised, enchanted and entertained for two hours without a blink. The film, based on the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, is set in 1930's Paris... the backdrops and the cinematography are superb... the story adorable...
Treat yourself... it's Friday... xv

Our family has the tradition of going to see a movie on Christmas eve and this year we saw Hugo. It was a magical film and perfect for the occasion. The movie is one of the best that I've seen in a long time.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I will have to go and see if after your recommendation Vicki. Absolutely love your blog, it is just divine, so inspiring.

Still need to see this movie!!
ReplyDeleteI loved this sweet, beautifully filmed movie... I watched it on my apple TV and never got to see the ending as our network went down... What happened?
ReplyDeleteHalf way thru Hugo Vicki, watch the rest this weekend but, yes simply enchanting so far.
ReplyDeleteI AGREE - this is a wonderful story and beautifully photographed in our favorite city in the world - Paris. Thanks for highlighting it in your blog!

What a good idea....it's a film I've been wanting to catch for ages....will make a special effort to see it this weekend! A bientot!
ReplyDeleteOh, when the movie came out, my young son, well he is 12, andI saw it twice. We are so enchanted. I raved about it on my blog, for it is one of the most magical films I have seen in years! The book was already incredible. My son devoured it, when it was first published. I agree wholeheartedly, it's for all who are young at heart and love not only a great story, but one about movies as well!
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Vicki, this movie is totally enchanting and quite magical !
ReplyDeleteTook my three grandchildren, including the youngest, who is a Hugo and we were all mesmerised from the opening scenes.
My 9 year old grand daughter, Sophia, had read the book and was delighted with the movie version which is always a good sign.
Scorsese is sooo clever and a true movie maker.
The children, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley brought their characters to life and even the animatron managed to convince me it had feelings.
Thanks, Vicki, for this post on such an imaginative movie ...
Vicki this is truly my favorite movie in a very long time; so enchanting! Hugo is a film for the ages!

ReplyDeleteI bought the DVD so I could share it with my grandkids. I watched it first and LOVED it. It's not to be missed.
ReplyDeleteBon weekend,
V
Haven't seen it yet but it's definitely on my list. It sounds delightful! I'm sad that I missed it in the theater. Looks like a film for the big screen!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jeanne--I can't believe that I didn't see this at the cinema! Looking forward to it though as I am a huge Scorcese/Schoonmaker fan...
ReplyDeleteWondering if you ever saw "The Artist"? I was so crazy for that...
Bon weekend!
Saw it in 3D after the Academy Awards this year, and decided afterwards that, to be fair, Hugo should have won over The Artist for best movie (I would still give Dujardin Best Actor, though.) It was a magical experience and my 12-year old was mesmerized. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteMy kid dragged me to see it and it was fabulous. I was mesmerized through and through. I wasn't quite paying attention to the story because the visuals were so breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteWe're watching it tonight. It was already planned because so many learned people have expounded as you just did. Big hug...
ReplyDeleteVicki,
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it yet but all of my friends that have seen it say it's truly magical and that the sound track is purchase/download worthy.

ReplyDeleteIt's been on my "must watch" list for a while - this weekend it is!
ReplyDeleteLOVED this film! Its art director won over my friend for The Artist which made me feel bad for him but after seeing the film...ohh la la! Superb!
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much for this recommendation. I would have missed it. Wonderful...

I saw the movie and really loved it. I like childrens' adventure movies! I liked "Tin Tin" too :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, loved this film. But I urge your readers to see it in 3D if possible. I generally don't care for 3D movies but Hugo is considered to be the best 3D film ever made and I certainly concur. It is simply magical. Scorecese said that he wanted to make a film his grandchildren could see. They appear in the film as well. (I think they are the children having tea in the train station with their mother)

I was surprised how much I like this movie...
ReplyDeleteLoved the silent film sequences...
I loved this movie so much. It didn't feel like a childs film at all. It felt like my kids were watching a movie I picked (well, I did pick it)!
ReplyDeleteI've not seen this one but after your review I definitely will. I'd love to see it in 3D as well. We saw Jane Birkin sing in Sydney last night, Vicki. The audience were on their feet at the finale. She was incredible. xx
ReplyDeleteYes it is simply enchanting....
