a french reflection...

image - vicki archer

Do you ever wake up on Monday morning and wonder where the weekend went? I can't seem to locate the last two days... gone in a blur of this with no particular that... and suddenly it is Monday morning and life's little routines are underway. What I love about Saturday and Sunday are the mental shenanigans and the intellectual wrangling I play ... I make small deals with myself that let me off the work hook...it's the weekend...it can wait until Monday... another 24 hours won't matter... that kind of thing...you know the drill?

So Monday it is and the week begins... Our olive harvest is in full swing and it's not been an easy one this year..... too many interruptions with rainy days and public holidays... There has been a great deal of stop and start...and that disrupts the rhythm,  for there is a momentum that gathers as the days pass and the crates fill... Hopefully the sun will stay out this week and the olive harvest can find a pace at last...

After the harvest comes my cue to think Christmas... probably it is like Thanksgiving... a date that marks the beginning of the holiday season. Once the last olive is picked and pressed then that is my official signal that Christmas is well and truly close...  I am already in the mood this year... I can't wait to decorate... to plan... to shop... to wrap... to cook... My first thought is what to place under these glass cloches.... last year I chose silvery glass decorations ...and candles...lots of candles in shimmering cups.... that kind of pretty delicate feel.... but I digress....

Once those olives are all tucked up I will be talking... and talking some more about the holidays at French Essence...But for now... it's back to Monday... xv

  7. I love the beautiful lines of those bell jars. Our weekends have not been our own since August, and I'm hoping that we wrap up this family business by the end of this month. I love having holidays or events that mark the seasons; it brings a sense of order and anticipation.

  8. Oh Vicki,
I love your glass cloches and they look even better en masse. Tell me.....do you have a cleaner, because they are sparkling !! I know that you are quite capable of cleaning but, everything looks pristine and you, being so busy with all that you have to do, I wondered if there was a treasured French lady that comes in ?
I was blessed with the genes that never make me question if it's OK to potter about, whatever day of the week it is, but then again, I don't have olive harvests to reap or books to write as you do.
I can't wait to see your Christmas preparations.......you do it so beautifully.....I wonder what will end up under those cloches ? XXXX

  12. You're feeding my cloche obsession! I bought some paperwhite bulbs to force - your photo reminded me that I need to get them potted so they're blooming in time for the holidays.

  21. Hello Vicki

May the harvest be plentiful and the labourers too.
How exciting. Must you feed the workers at harvest time?

I am looking forward to Christmas too - next week is Thanksgiving here in the USA and we are invited to a ranch for dinner - so some horseback riding and then dinner. My contribution is a salad.

    Have a deightful week

  23. Yes weekends are very precious Vicki. Now I've returned to the grind of full-time work, I now run at a zillion miles/hr the entire 2 days. I'm starting to long for my room in the Twilight Nursing Home for the Terminally Bewildered when I won't even know what day it is or really care! Now back out to those orchards & Mr. FF's olive productivity spreadsheets for you my dear.
    Millie xx
