Love them, hate them....wear them or not?...I am a fan of the espadrille and wear mine constantly in the summer...but only in the summer and only with the most casual of clothes. I buy mine in the French markets (Arles has the best)...Years ago they cost a couple of euros a pair, now they are closer to ten euros...but that's life....and probably because they have become a fashion item and derigueur for this season.... even one of my favourite fashion bloggers Garance Doré agrees....I stick with the simple styles but some of the more fancy pairs, like the Chanel two-tone are pretty cute....
The biggest problem is deciding what colour to wear....market espadrilles come in a multitude...both brights and neutrals...and like my basket collection, the pairs keep growing......
Do you espadrille it? xv

I would love to espadrille, but can't seem to find any here in southern Minnesota. I have a short blue skirt and a striped shirt to go with it that are SCREAMING for espadrilles, but the hunt hasn't been fruitful...
ReplyDeleteThese Chanel espadrilles are magnifiques Vicki! I love them! ;-) My guess is they don't go for cheap. Dommage. I was recently in Spain and invested in a bright orange pair of espadrilles. I also got a pair of "catalanes"-- the high heel espadrille where you tie a long ribbon around your ankle. The color is denim and they are very cute. Too bad I live so far away, or my collection my grown, like yours! Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love these~~
ReplyDeleteYes - but here in the States it's so hard to find a traditional pair that has a slight wedge. I finally found them at www.emandmespadrilles.com. I have lavender and black - luckily I bought my black pair before the price went up to $60. I think you could start a business selling espadrilles to us here in the US!
ReplyDeleteYes. I definitely "do" espadrilles. You don't see women wearing them as much in the US as in Europe. I wish they did. What I love is seeing European men wearing espadrilles. Oh la la! Sexy.
ReplyDeleteThey do look comfortable. Alas, they seem to make me look like I have big, clunky feet so I tend to stick to sandals in the summer.
ReplyDeleteHello Vicki
ReplyDeleteI would espadrielle for Chanel.
I like sandles in summer, as I love my French manicure.
Stay cool

Oui, j'adore espadrilles. I prefer the plain ones and only wear them in the summer too with casual outfits. You're so right. You can't have too many espadrilles or French market baskets.
ReplyDeleteSam
I think they are cute!! I would wear them if I had a pair would have to be a dark color because anything white 4get it I will ruin it within 5 min of wearing!
ReplyDeleteI love my espadrilles and wear them in summer too...mine was actually from Provence but sold here by a provencale family who imports them, yeah! I like the colors of the chanel one but am sure would not like the price as much : )
ReplyDeleteI absolutley love them - I would want them in all sorts of colours too.
ReplyDeleteI find them very hard to keep clean (love clean shoes)
But love the casual french look

I don't know quite how it happened but I have become a flip-flop person! I have a permanent "Y" tanned into my foot!
ReplyDeleteI have shoes in my closet that cost more than my first car but lately all I wear is the humble flip-flop!
Vicki, for the stylishly confidant they never go out of style! I had a pair in the late 70's that I loved so much I bought 2 pairs so that when the first pair wore out, I'd have another. Alas,I wore out the second pair too! Love espadrilles, particularly those with ankle straps. Shiree'
ReplyDeleteI do! They are so very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI haven't worn them in a while. But those are super cute, and the low heel looks comfy. This is an idea I might have to revisit. Thanks!
ReplyDeletePatti
Those are darling! I want some!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Love an espadrille. Love those Chanel ones! Nice to find you ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the Chanel's! I do espadrilles! Believe it or not, my favs are a red and white striped, ribboned laced, slightly wedged pair I bought years ago at...ahem...Walmart! Baby them, I have and they are so comfortable and look so great! I have seen some adorable ones this summer but not in my size. I must attend to that search!
ReplyDeleteI love espadrilles. I just visited the espadrille "factory" in Barcelona and bought several pairs, I'll be writing about them soon!
ReplyDeleteYes please. A long love affair with espadrilles. Alas no longer seen as fashionable in many circles. I thumb my nose at that!
ReplyDeleteOui, oui! So cute!
ReplyDeleteOh yes please! I will take the Channel babies. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com PS Thank you for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteThey are sweet. I would love a pair; and for those who cannot make it to France for a real French basket per your link, I have a source:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.frenchbasketeer.com/newmain.html
which could be helpful. Now, I just need to find some of those espadrilles!
live in mine all summer... white, black, and indigo... or if only i had the choices you do i would truly be in heaven! (and my front entry would be a disaster!)
ReplyDeletei will pop on over and we will hit arles.... oh wouldn't that be fun!
have a wonderful weekend dear vicki.... xoxo
I am with Helen up above...I would espadrille for Chanel!Love these ~
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend Vicki!
Nathalie
No I don't! But only because I haven't seen any so wonderful as what you describe. Send some.........size 9.5. Much love XO
ReplyDeletethese are so fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love espadrilles and am glad you do too! They are so comfortable and perfect for summer. I am in need of some new ones!

I love espadrilles and I have photos of Grace Kelly in the 1950's wearing the flat version - I have a pic of my mother wearing the same pair in about 1955. I haven't owned a pair in awhile, but I did have a pair of platform espadrilles that were so difficult to walk in (I ordered them online), I never wore them-tragic. Must get a new pair!
ReplyDeleteYes I do, but they are rather difficult to find.
ReplyDeleteNo, my wardrobe is sadly lacking in espadrilles! I had a pair of pink ones quite some time ago and loved them. I want some again! I'm thinking navy or a pretty pastel. Have a gorgeous weekend, Vicki.
ReplyDeleteVicki I love espadrilles! It is hard to find cute ones in the US . I agree with Michele, you could have a lucrative business going here!

i don't really.
ReplyDeletebut i would certainly wear those.
xx
I love them Mais, I have seen so few of them in narrows.. I love the Chanels in the two tones..
ReplyDeleteCome and peek in my shoe closet - what do you see?
ReplyDeleteThat's right three pairs of espadrilles waiting for me!
One pair is red - I love them with denim.
Another is white - with shorts they are heaven.
The last ones are blue - or a grey-blue pastiche...
Whatever the colour they are fun for my feet [s].
xx Felicity
Fancy shoes inspiring me to write a little ditty for you - I guess that a classic shoe will do that for you!
I love espadrilles but they are more and more expensive ... These Chanel ones are very chic
ReplyDeleteTotally me.
ReplyDeletexoxo lylah
I have them in every shape and form. I have worn from my first walking years on. Do agree, they have become quite expensive even if purchased from market. i just picked up a few pairs made in Spain in Saint jean de Luz and paid up to 30 Euros... After spending the night dancing on high heels at my assistant wedding (see todays'post Estera is getting married),I am so thankful to have my espadrille to wear to day.
ReplyDeleteEspadrilles have always been a fashion staple for me, ever since I was a little child. Here in Europe (Belgium) they are not that hard to get by, but I do agree their prices have risen a lot over the past years. That's to be expected when they are picked up (again) by the fashion radar. The same has happened over the past two years with bretonnieres (stripy fisherman sweaters). My espadrilles for this summer are red ones and blue-white stripy ones.
ReplyDeletex E.
So me too! Love them with a wedge as well.....
ReplyDeleteMerci for your lovely post, come and see me in South Carolina...
xoxo V.
I adore espadrilles but am a very difficult fit and haven't yet found a pair that I don't walk out of (narrow heels). LOVE these chic Chanel ones but the market variety would be fine with me!!
ReplyDeleteBig fan and love espadrilles...some comfy and at 45 comfort is VERY important!
ReplyDeleteLove love love them! I agree simple are the best ones, I just found a burlap pair:) But these Chanels are pretty darn cute!
ReplyDeleteI've never actually worn espandrilles.. No idea why, so I should probably change that...
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've never seen the Chanel ones... Now I've got to go hunt for those.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Great blog
http://www.bellezadeluna.blogspot.com
I love them and have a pair or two but they are notoriously hard to find in rural Australia!
ReplyDeleteWell, if Garance said so, I'm all in. I do love the Chanel ones, but I mostly get Tom's at Whole Foods. Amazing colors, very cute, and Tom's gives a free pair to children for every pair sold. The Row is also doing a small collection for Tom's. Check them out.
ReplyDeleteHello Vicki,
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful weekend... as for espadrilles, they are a necessity in my books! I have a lovely pair from France as well and a new pair that I ordered online just last week. I think that are so classic...
xx, Sarah
Vicki-
ReplyDeleteBeyond divine.
Such a kick. And it is astonishing that Chanel has not done these before (or have they? Maybe Chanel herself did a version...you know how much she loved Deauville and the South of France (la Pausa...first her house and now a wonderful fragrance).
Cheers and admiration, DIANE

Hi Vicki, I love espadrilles--all kinds. Just one glance at them and I'm back in my beloved Spain where they are called "Alpargatas". Mary
ReplyDeleteA girl can never have too many pairs of espadrilles. I love my white broderie anglaise ones, which are perfect for any white linen flare trousers with a blue and white striped top, finished with a big straw hat... so Chanel. The flat ones tend not to fit very well and so I usually buy the ones with a wedge heel - they are simply more elegant!
ReplyDeleteI do wear them, and have worn them in the summer since I was in high school a hundred years ago, but now they are getting way too expensive in the US. It's easy to spend anywhere from $60 to $80 on a very simple pair. Outrageous! I think I need a trip to France to stock up, don't you?!?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was just looking through the Daily Click--thank you so much for quoting my cherries and yogurt post! I had missed it last week, and I was so very touched to find it today. You are just the best, my friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI do. Years ago I was never happy with one pair. I've had natural, yellow, red, navy and striped. I would have adored those Chanel spectators. These days, due to a failed foot surgery, I wear what I have to not what I want. Some days I get just plumb mad about it all. I'm very happy to know so many others love them.
