Aren't long weekends the best?
This weekend I am madly organising for the arrival of my DD's (darling daughters...sadly my GB...that would be gorgeous boy is in the middle of exams) and some of their friends at our farm in St Rémy de Provence. I have made sure that the sun will be shining, the temperatures pool worthy and the fridge is well stocked. I am excited for their arrival and can't wait not only to see them but also to dote on their every whim...It is funny how a few years can make what was once a big chore with little children into the greatest of pleasures. I remember when my three were all under three and those tiring long days of babies and toddlers felt as if they would never end. Nowadays I can't get enough of them...Their company is the brightest, their friends the most entertaining and their wishes are my command. These days that mother's lament, 'when will I ever have time for myself', is the last thing I really want...
Have a happy weekend everyone....xv

I'm so glad it gets better. I have a four year old and some days it is so tedious and long. I love him dearly but wish bedtime would come all too soon. Have a lovely weekend! It sounds like a perfect one!! Leahx
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel Vicki.
ReplyDeleteMy second daughter arrived home on Monday after a French exchange, my baby left for camp the same day ... my eldest is in the middle of her exams ... and my husband arrives home from visiting his sick dad in Australia. I cant wait for the weekend either, when all the family is back home!
Enjoy your precious time with them all and have a wonderful weekend.
xx
Vicki...I can relate to every word. I may get lucky enough to have all four of them together under one roof in June. I am saying my prayers, every day :)

Jeanne
Oh that sounds like a marvelous way to spend a weekend...Have a wonderful time :) c xx
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!! I so agree, as they get older the anticipation of their return home is even sweeter, and the fluffing of the pillows, the stocking of their favorite drinks in the fridge, the replenishing of all the must have foods, all the comfors of home that you know mean a lot to them (and you) are all things we take great delight in making sure are "just right"...its a ritual I take great delight in going through when my two older boys retrun to the roost......and its as though the two most important house guests in the entire world are coming to pay a visit and there is nothing too grand that I can do for them. It is all my pleasure. I love every minute of it!! Enjoy it......isn't it wonderful to have them home again!

This sounds like a heavenly weekend! So jealous, am in Brighton today and its grey and windy. Can't wait to get back to the Provencal Sun with prodigal step daughter over from Sydney in two weeks time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like heaven. Expecting to have both kids underfoot for the summer. Savoring the last bits before their lives move them further away. Have enjoyed every piece of their lives with us(well, could have skipped a teenage tantrums here and there). Have a wonderful weekend! Trish
ReplyDeleteI love all of your enthusiasm and it's a good reminder to me as my kids grow up a bit to savor it! I try to, but it's easy to lose sight of it. Enjoy this special time - it sounds like you have a lovely place for them to spend time with you too! Enjoy...
ReplyDeleteYou bet your daugher is just as excited as you. I know that I always love to go home and spend time with my family. There is nothing like having a mother's doting attention to make everything in the world just seem okay. There's no place like home and being able to always go home PRICELESS!!! (and you never get to old to go home)
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly...my darling daughters are the lights of my life and I treasure their visits when I can shower them with love and attention.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy a wonderful weekend at your glorious home....
I am so happy for you. I read your blog everytime you post, though I do not comment as much as I would like. Thank you for your comment today. I have two girls: ( 8yo and 15 month old). I would love to have a "heart to heart" conversation with them. It is nice to know that day will come and it will get better. I am cleaning applesauce out of my hair as I type after feeding Isabella. Hope everyone has a nice and safe holiday weekend.
ReplyDeleteDearest V, I will have son visiting from NY in August, daughter lives in LA. Everyone under One roof-just the best feeling! How poignant...and how sweet that you get to spend this time doting on them. I'll be home all weekend, writing, reading, covered in cats, relaxing on my newly-cleaned-for-spring porch.
ReplyDeleteI agree with every word. These times are so precious and make the best memories which last forever....
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful image! I have a little one whose 8 months old and as I watch my mother-in-law have such a hard time empty nesting (my own mom still has a teenager!) I'm reminded to cherish each and every day with my little man because it goes by quickly. I'll sleep when they're 30 right?
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post that puts it all in perspective...time goes by far too quickly! Have a FABULOUS time with your DD's and friends...

I know you will enjoy your weekend. My son told me he would spend an entire weekend with me this summer as my birthday gift. I can't wait to schedule our time together.
ReplyDeleteWell said! I can't get enough of my adult children. Any extra time I have, which is not very much. The first thing I want to do, is visit my children.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I am struggling with this stage and trying to find new focuses. That is why Blogland has been such a saviour! Have a wonderful, wonderful time. Fiona
ReplyDeleteVicki, how lovely that you are at this wonderful, relaxed stage in life where you are appreciating life in the moment. I love your blog. Thanks for the joy you bring
ReplyDeletehelentilston
I am still in that stage with the three little ones and long days but I do my best to savor them - I know the time will fly!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Angela
ok...now i'm realizing how very much I need to treasure this weekend with our youngest son and his friends at our beach house! Although I'm dealing with other issues with our other children...and really not feeling like being here at all...once I got here..I realized it was the best thing for me! Funny how God does that in your life! So glad I can enjoy each child! I'm still a bit apprehensive with 4 17-18 year old boys here...who are all 6 ft to 6 ft 4 or 5"! and they are always starving!! There hasn't been a moment to myself...and yet I'm loving it! wouldn't trade these memories for anything! But gosh...I sure did need to read this to remind me not to take it for granted!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your posts! They are always wonderful!
Carolyn
Vicki, I hope it's the longest of long weekends for you to enjoy with your DDs. {And to balance the space time continuum, I hope it's the shortest of short times before GB's next stay with his darling mum.} I'm blessed to see my mother every week, often twice, and I still can't get enough of her. Have a beautiful time...
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly dear Vicki - enjoy every moment.
ReplyDeleteMy DD, her husband and my two darling little granddaughters visited us from France for a month in February.
She has been gone from NZ eleven years now and I miss her so very much.
We didn't waste a single precious moment!

I, too, remember having 4 little ones and how it would drive me crazy... Now my oldest is going to be a junior in high school and I am already dreading the day she leaves... Enjoy your time with your children and friends, these are the best times!!!

Well said, Vicki! Enjoy your daughters! xxoo
ReplyDeleteSaid perfectly.. I can't wait for the kids come home, to bring the grandkids so that I can wait on them hand and foot. You have a lovely home in which to do the "waiting on"... have fun.
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same...you said it perfectly. I treat my kids (adults) special and I enjoy going above and beyond and out of my way for them. It makes me so happy and them too.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog -
Marsha
This observation really resonated with me. I just spent the last 3 days with my cousins's 4 yr. old and 7 mo. old. I loved every minute of it. My teens, however, were exhausted from the noise and tumult! I soaked in every bit of those little fingers and toes. After they rolled out the driveway, all 4 of here were sound asleep on various couches. How easily we forget the work!! I hope you had a marvelous weekend with your girls!
