The Obamas are taking the UK by storm and when they are not talking the important talk they are wining and dining at Buckingham Palace. The guest list for last night's big bash read like a who's who of politics, royalty, entertainment, business and Hollywood. Was the Mayor of London sitting next to Tom Hanks and did they discuss London's newest bicycles? Did the British Prime Minister eat all his greens as he chatted with Kevin Spacey? Perhaps Helen Bonham-Carter swapped fashion secrets with Michelle Obama or maybe Sir Richard Branson discussed flight times with the Archbishop of Canterbury. I am sure that the head of MI6, the secret intelligence service, couldn't wait to catch up with Tony Blair and I wonder whether he and Gordon Brown chatted over coffee. Maybe all the guests made a bee-line for Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, to check on interest rates....
Of course I am being silly...but what a dinner party and what a guest list... Who would you want to sit next to if it could be anyone? Living candidates only please....xv

Sir Richard Branson, if you don't mind. I'm certain the dinner party conversation would be brilliant. Cannot believe Mrs. O wore that hideous pouffy skirt w/balero jacket during the day. I know you didn't ask for a fashion comment, I just simply could not help myself.

ReplyDeleteWould love to have been a fly on the wall, Vicki. I admit I am all into this royalty thing as long as it is in another country because of the costs. They are the royalty of the world, and I admit to waking up at 4 am to watch the wedding.

ReplyDeleteMaybe this is a silly question but is it appropriate for Michelle to have worn bare-ish shoulders in front of the Queen? They both looked fantastic, I must say.
Because I have a few unanswered questions that I'd hope could be covered between courses, I'd have to go with the Dali Lama. Plus I could admire his comfortable shoes while enduring the fabulous misery of my own.

I have no idea on the etiquette of bare shoulders at such a function, but Mme President looks sensational! As for the company ~ Vicki, if you were there, I'd love the seat next to you! And perhaps I could have a quick chat with the Queen if you had to visit the powder room. Sir Richard Branson would be pretty hard to top as well. His joy for life inspires me.
ReplyDeleteHer Majesty, I think. English people make wonderful conversations, without being overly personal with one another. It is a trait I value in my family (who are English) after all. Most Americans cannot seem to be as discreet.

What a dinner Vicki.......and such a glittering array of guests. I rather liked the diversity of it. They are usually stuffy affairs, so the mix of polititians and guests from the entertainment industry was a good one I think.

ReplyDeleteI am a sentimental fool for him...must have been all those Toy Story
movies over the years with the kids. I would have been happy to tuck back and watch everyone else...I find that so much more interesting than trying to make small talk, you miss so much! Even better if I could hide myself away with a zoom lens and take lots of photos. I would have Tom by my side..I imagine we would be laughing all the way.
