guess who is coming to dinner....

The Obamas are taking the UK by storm and when they are not talking the important talk they are wining and dining at Buckingham Palace. The guest list for last night's big bash read like a who's who of politics, royalty, entertainment, business and Hollywood. Was the Mayor of London sitting next to Tom Hanks and did they discuss London's newest bicycles? Did the British Prime Minister eat all his greens as he chatted with Kevin Spacey? Perhaps Helen Bonham-Carter swapped fashion secrets with Michelle Obama or maybe Sir Richard Branson discussed flight times with the Archbishop of Canterbury. I am sure that the head of MI6, the secret intelligence service, couldn't wait to catch up with Tony Blair and I wonder whether he and Gordon Brown chatted over coffee. Maybe all the guests made a bee-line for Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, to check on interest rates....

Of course I am being silly...but what a dinner party and what a guest list... Who would you want to sit next to if it could be anyone? Living candidates only please....xv

  2. Sir Richard Branson, if you don't mind. I'm certain the dinner party conversation would be brilliant. Cannot believe Mrs. O wore that hideous pouffy skirt w/balero jacket during the day. I know you didn't ask for a fashion comment, I just simply could not help myself.

  3. The Queen! I would love to know what is behind her expressions, haha!
Would love to have been a fly on the wall, Vicki. I admit I am all into this royalty thing as long as it is in another country because of the costs. They are the royalty of the world, and I admit to waking up at 4 am to watch the wedding.
    Great image and post, Vicki.

  4. Oh, I am sorry to be so sentimental but it really would be my Mom.

Maybe this is a silly question but is it appropriate for Michelle to have worn bare-ish shoulders in front of the Queen? They both looked fantastic, I must say.

  5. Because I have a few unanswered questions that I'd hope could be covered between courses, I'd have to go with the Dali Lama. Plus I could admire his comfortable shoes while enduring the fabulous misery of my own.

  6. Hello,

I think I'm on the list, you can check that please? :D

    Have a nice wednesday!

  7. Oh............Kate and William of course. They could tell me all the details about their wedding and honeymoon. Of course, then I would want to know what Kate really thinks about her mother-in-law-lol! Am I boring in this game?
    Much love Vicki. XOXO

  8. Fabulous! Can't get enough of this. It's so much more exciting that reading or watching Oprah's final show!

  9. I just love The Queen--even with all of her foibles, she does "carry on" beautifully. The Obamas look pretty spiffy also. Thanks, Mary

  14. I'd like to sit between Helen Mirren and Colin Firth.... they might not be on the list... nor am I for that matter.
    Just dreaming!

  15. I would love to sit next to William or his Uncle, the Earl Spencer, my tres' distant cousin. Rather not sit next to womanizer Prince Phillip...Queen E would be nice but only if she was smiling...

  16. Knowing Richard Branson in person I would definitely like to sit next to him! Very interesting character! And on my other side I would prefer the Queen, who else!

  17. I would be in the corner, playing my harp for all these honored guests! You hear the juiciest things when people think you can't hear them talking over the music...hee hee hee!

  18. The Queen and Prince Phillip; they are not as stuffy as one might think!

  19. Such a hard choice, would have to leave it up to fate. However, the Queen may be a little too intimidating.

  20. I'll happily take a seat next to the First Lady, Mrs. Obama. I believe we would have a lot to discuss.

  21. probably anyone but the obama's as it wouldn't have been a pleasant conversation!

  22. Oh! I'd love to sit next to Prince Phillip - I know most people percieve him as being grumpy and arrogant but I think after a few nips of this and that he might just let his guard down and chat about stuff!!

  23. Actually, I think Helena Bonham-Carter & Kevin Spacey would both be at the top of my list!

  24. I have no idea on the etiquette of bare shoulders at such a function, but Mme President looks sensational! As for the company ~ Vicki, if you were there, I'd love the seat next to you! And perhaps I could have a quick chat with the Queen if you had to visit the powder room. Sir Richard Branson would be pretty hard to top as well. His joy for life inspires me.

  25. Her Majesty, I think. English people make wonderful conversations, without being overly personal with one another. It is a trait I value in my family (who are English) after all. Most Americans cannot seem to be as discreet.

  26. I think George Michael would be a fun dinner companion. I heard him interviewed by Piers Morgan and he was witty and entertaining. Runner-up for me is Hugh Grant.

  27. Hi Vicki, What a great photo! I think I'd rather be a waitress so I could go around and listen in on the conversations and not make a fool of myself!! Of course I could still do that and spill the soup on the First Lady's dress and then she'd have to change into something that covered her shoulders!! Patsy from

  28. What a dinner Vicki.......and such a glittering array of guests. I rather liked the diversity of it. They are usually stuffy affairs, so the mix of polititians and guests from the entertainment industry was a good one I think.
If I could choose a guest to invite and sit next to it would be either Russell Brand or Ricky Gervais or his sidekick Karl Pilkington.( sorry, I couldn't name just one !!) I love a man with a cheeky sense of humour !! XXXX

  30. Vicki, what a dinner party, indeed! Think I'd like to sit in between the Queen and Michelle Obama - two very different women, yet incredible in their own way.

  31. What a fun idea....Please seat me between Sarah Burton (Alexander McQueen's successor) and Suzy Menkes (fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune!

  32. Vicki I would love to be next to William, he would be a great conversationalist being a Royal and a down to earth young man.

  33. I'd like to be seated next to Sidney Poitier and Obama, please. The Queen can have the rest. Don't get me wrong, I'll serve her tea if need be, but I'll be very busy in conversation with these two!
Thanks for inviting me and I'll show myself out.
    Bon weekend!

  34. Well...which planet am I from? My first thought was Tom Hanks!
I am a sentimental fool for him...must have been all those Toy Story
movies over the years with the kids. I would have been happy to tuck back and watch everyone else...I find that so much more interesting than trying to make small talk, you miss so much! Even better if I could hide myself away with a zoom lens and take lots of photos. I would have Tom by my side..I imagine we would be laughing all the way.
See...I must be from another planet~

Off to make myself a coffee and find my way back to reality.

    Best wishes Vicki...
