That is a darling photo. The only thing that bothers me in the picture is the fellow on the bicycle with those terrible pants. He is probably American; please tell me is American! I don't want to think of the French adopting terrible American fashions.
Every time I'm at a restaurant here and a waiter or waitress attackes me with "Hi, I'm ---- and I'm your server, here are our specials, what can I get you?" and interrupts the conversation over and over to ask, "how are you doing here, how's everything tasting, how are you doing, what else can I get you..." I really, really, really miss being in French restaurants!
I can just see their cheeks begin to "rougir." Within the first 12 hours of my first visit to Paris (10 years ago), I managed to get a photo of me and a friend standing with un très beau gendarme. We were silly young American girls with no shame. I also think he was quite flattered like the men in your photo.
Oh I love this one VIcki. I've run into a few stuffy French waiters, but most are friendly and I"ve taken more a than a few photos of them. I agree that they do leave you alone. that took a little getting use to when I expected my glass of wine pronto! HA Also sometimes getting l'addition takes being a little assertive too. When I return home, the chatty, hovering waiters drive me crazy! V
I like the picture a lot, I also like the rue du Bac area a lot. the man on the bike, to me is no problem. I find that he makes the whole thing even a little more interesting, whether he is American or not. (sorry hopflower ;-) )
Darling photo, it reminds me how French men are comfortable being tender and playful with each other, whereas American men have to look over their shoulders for fear of not appearing macho enough.
La Fregate???!!! Corner Rue De Bac & Quai Voltaire??? My husband proposed to me there.....a very special place in my heart! We were sitting out doors on that very corner late one night having an after dinner glass or two of wine. A great corner to people watch and the wait staff is always welcoming.
