french scent...

Sometimes a scent will stop you in your tracks - Le Labo, Fleur d'Oranger 27 is one such scent. We all have our best loved fragrances that we wear year in and year out - we all splash and spray our particular fragrances for our own reasons. I often think that perfume is more about the memories that it evokes than the actual base of floral notes that make up the scent. I am very faithful to my fragrances and have written before about my perfume loves here, here and here. Annick Goutal, Serges Lutens and Frederic Malle have been my constant companions since forever.

This Le Labo scent is fresh and clean and there is a hint of the familiar about it. Warm evenings and scented breezes, happiness and laughter, sweet memories of  Provence; these were the some of the thoughts dancing around my head as I inhaled this Fleur d' Oranger for the first time. If I could bathe in orange blossoms I would; my joy at finding another scent with these notes made me ridiculously happy. For me, scent is the most important part of my wardrobe. I feel entirely underdressed without it and I don't really remember a time when I haven't felt like that. xv

  1. Le Labo is a great company and I agree their orange blossom is gorgeous- they're all good I think. I like some of the more daring ones too

    Always love your scent posts

  2. I am the same way about scented lotions. For some reason, they don't trigger my allergies as much as perfumes. Crabtree and Evelyn has some of my favorite scents. If I forget to rub some on in the morning, I too, feel like I am just not entirely pulled together!

  3. Your description is so vivid I think I can catch a hint of this scent in the air. I agree about how essential a signature scent--or two or three--is to one's personal style. I won't leave the house with out my Frederick Malle Pink Lipstick, which I've worn for a decade. And when I catch a hint of Coco Mademoiselle it always takes me immediately to Paris, because my best friend wore it when we took our first trip together there. Thanks for the delicious memory to start the week.

  5. Oooh, I love Le Labo and would love to have a bottle of Rose 31 (among others listed up there!)
Not long ago I bought a bottle of limited-edition cashmere hand-wash soap which was a collaboration between Le Labo and the Laundress. The subtle scent of a complex rose on sweaters was fantastic.
Cheers and have a wonderful week, Alcira

  6. I completely get you on this one. Scent for me is the most important part of my wardrobe. I have two favorites, one for spring/summer and the other for autumn/winter.

  9. Ooh the way you describe it sounds so delicious! I would love to find a signature scent but most of them are so overwhelming. This is one I'd like to try!

  10. I wear my Chanel No. 5 like armor every day - a barrier of beauty between me and the outside world. Without it, I feel unprotected, incomplete.

I also fell in love with a scent called "Frond" when I was in Ireland last summer - we visited the Burren Perfumery and spent HOURS sniffing and testing lotions and soaps!

  11. I agree! Here in Canada, we are under HUGE pressure to stop wearing scents at all-- in the workplace, in the hospital, etc. It is the antithesis of French thinking and, while I understand that some people are sensitive to scent in a negative way, it breaks my heart to imagine having to give up wearing my Fragonard "Cerisier en fleur"...

  16. Hi Vicki - I have never tried Fleur d'Oranger 27 and of course can't wait for my next trip to the city to try a little spitz - perfume makes my heart sing - my very favourite being ~Miss Dior Cherie~ just light and pretty. And for the evening, something a bit more deep and mysterious, a soft waft of that exotic ~Paloma Picasso~ not too much mind you - just a hint!

  17. I've only ever felt that way about one scent, a tiny bottle that I purchased from a perfumerie when I was in Paris as a teenager. If only I could remember where it was!

  19. Thanks for this Vicki. Jo Malone's Orange Blossom is one of my summer scents but I am finding it doesn't linger as long as I would like. Something new for me to discover...Le Labo. It is on my list :)

  20. Chanel No.5 will forever be my mother... when I was younger and traveling overseas... feeling homesick, I'd wander into a department store and steal a sample... a little piece of home. gxo
